Richard Good Obituary

DECATUR - Richard "Dick" F. Good, 83, of Decatur, IL, went to his heavenly home at 11:30 P.M., Tuesday, November 6, 2007, at Illinois Veteran's Home, Quincy, IL. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M., Saturday, November 10, 2007, at Life Foursquare Church, Decatur, IL, with visitation two hours prior to service time. Burial will be in Boiling Springs Cemetery, Decatur, IL. Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, will be handling the arrangements. Memorials may be made to Parkinsons Foundation or Illinois Veteran's Home, Quincy, IL. Dick was born December 1, 1923, in Decatur, IL, the son of Harry and Fleta (Reisinger) Good. He married Eulavohne Butler on June 29, 1946 in Decatur, IL.  Dick grew up on the farm and gave up his farm deferment to serve his country in WWII. He entered the U.S. Army in January 1944 and served faithfully and proudly in Belgium and France, including Battle of the Bulge. He was a Staff Sergeant for the 709 Railway Grand Division. Dick was a member of Life Foursquare Church and served faithfully many offices in his church, having an active part in the church building program at the Foursquare Church, corner of Leafland and Warren and the church on 16th and Moore in Decatur, IL. Dick was a member of Illinois Checker Federation and a Class A Illinois Checker Champion for several years. Playing professional checkers was a large part of his life. He started the large checker board in the Decatur Celebration and enjoyed all the checker tourneys and was featured in Decatur papers many times. He enjoyed his travels and visited 15 foreign countries plus Alaska and Hawaii. He was an avid fisherman and feels he made his greatest catch in the Sea of Galilee with a small line and hook (he took in a medicine bottle) and let down on the side of the boat. Golf was also his game, playing on many leagues when he was younger and was a man of many hobbies but still his family was his greatest joy and following Him in his footsteps serving the Lord was his hearts desire. Dick was employed 6 years with U.S. Manufacturing Co. and then 33 ½ years at Borg Warner-York Division before retiring in 1986. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eulavohne of Decatur, IL; sons Dale F. Good and wife Sandra of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Dennis R. Good and wife Nancy of Mundelein, IL; grandchildren Brian C. Good of Columbus, IN, Bradley A. Good of Indianapolis, IN, Ashley B. Berndt and husband Scott of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Micah D. Good of Mundelein, IL; brother Edwin Good of Oakley, IL; sisters Thelma Lollie of Mt. Zion, IL and Alberta Stanfield of Hazelwood, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law Dorothy. Condolences may be left to the family at www.brintlingerandearl.com. Obituary written by family members.
