Pete was a true softball legend. I had the honor of playing several seasons with Pete as a member of the Bloomington Hearts and have many fond memories of those seasons. He was a joy to play behind - he worked fast and threw strikes! Pete was a wonderful teammate on and off the field!

Pete was truly one of the finest. On the field, he always wanted the ball no matter the circumstances. Off the field, he was willing to share his expertise with anyone who wanted to listen.

I will miss the stories shared by him and the others of his generation about the way softball was back in the "good ole days".

Condolences to Alice and the family.

Great man, had the honor of playing with him for several years. The best advice He ever gave me was to just have fun out there. He will be missed.

Pete was a great competitor, and ambassidor of fastpitch softball. When you played with or against Pete, you admired him. He will be greatly missed in this tight community of mens fastpitch softball.

I have so many memories of Pete pitching for us (Budweiser and Beer Nuts)and against us. But my favorite memory is in the ASA national in Bloomington when he beat Chuck D'Arcy and Santa Rosa, Cal. D'Arcy was quoted in the newspaper saying people like Pete was the reason he kept playing the game. But my favorite memories of Pete are not when he was on the mound. It was sitting in the dugout or after the game enjoying his great sense of humor and stories. God didn't make them any better than Pete.

I think its safe to say that I speak for the entire Southern Illinois Fastpitch community in offering heartfelt condolences to all of the Kulenkamp family.

On a more personal note, Rena' and I extend our deepest sympathies to Roy Kulenkamp- a friend from the past Pinckneyville Celtics days.

I will miss the warm handshake and chats at every tournament where my path crossed with Pete. We last talked, for nearly an hour, at the 05 ASA State in Decatur.

The softball world has lost a legend.

The world has lost an even finer gentleman.

And we that knew Pete, have simply lost a good friend.

Pete is one of the all time great "good guys" of fastpitch softball. My first year with the Bloomington Hearts (1984) we played the Clearwater Bombers and Pete stuck it to the home team twice in a row (back to back nights) despite being called "old man" in the Clearwater papers. Of course who knew he was just starting to have some of his best years ever at the age of 48! He was a great player and even more so a great person.

Rest in Peace Lefty........

I know my father loved softball and loved playing for and against the Decatur Teams (A's, ADM, Pride) as well as coaching the the men Pride and the Lady Pride softball teams.
