William Edward "Bill" Cooksey Jr.

William Cooksey Obituary

WILLIAM EDWARD "BILL" COOKSEY, JR., 58, passed away peacefully, but unexpectedly on July 27, 2008. Bill was born on July 29, 1949 in Houston, Texas, to Babe and Lois Cooksey, who precede him in death. He attended Sam Houston High School and graduated from Texas A&M University -- Class of 1971. From 1968 to 1971, he was a member of the Texas Aggie Basketball Team, Southwest Conference Champs in 1969. He spent the last 30 years in the commercial construction industry, where he was highly respected, most recently with Meridian Constructors. Bill passed away after enjoying a week-long vacation with his wife and grandchildren in Lost Pines, Texas, rafting the Colorado River. He was an avid fisherman, who also enjoyed blazing down the open road on his motorcycle. He was quite an expert at woodworking, and was known for his unique antler and mesquite "Texas" pens, a craft he recently taught his grandson, Andrew. His passion was his family, and he especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren, who loved spending weekends with their Pap and Granny. Bill will be remembered by his family and friends as a man who cared unconditionally, gave without question, and maintained a high level of integrity. His one-of-a-kind quick wit and sense of humor will continue to live on in our hearts, and his infectious laugh and silly grin will never be forgotten. Bill is survived by his loving wife and friend of 37 years, Monica, daughters, Kasey Marsh and husband Jack, and Erin Fryer; grandchildren Andrew Fryer, Lindsay Fryer, Claire Marsh and Connor Marsh; sister Jade Seibert, brother Wyatt Cooksey, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at Brookside Funeral Home Cypress Creek. A memorial service will be held at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, 11507 Huffmeister, Houston, Texas 77065, at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2008. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Bill's name to Child Advocates, Inc., 2401 Portsmouth, Houston, Texas 77098 http://childadvocates.org/.

I had only come to know Bill in the time that we worked together at Meridian Constructors. Even in that short time it was enough to know that he was the kind of person that everyone wanted around.

He was the kind of person that you wished you could be more like. I will miss his hilarious emails and always entertaining conversations.

He was a part of our Meridian team and he made work a fun place to be.

To his family, I will keep you all in my prayers during your time of sadness. He was an amazing person and I know that you all don't need me to tell you that.

We will all miss you very much Bill!

Uncle Bill was not an overly religous man. Many may have believed that he was if they didnt already know. He did however live his life in a way that was pleasing to God. He gave in a way that many are not capable. He would give you the shirt off his back and the last dollar in his pocket if you were in need. He would offer the pants as well if he had worn underwear that day. He loved unconditionally and always put others before himself.

Bill was not an overly political man, but if he ever ran for office he would win in a lanslide. If he were president the country and world would be better because of it. He would rather go fishing than sit and watch politics on TV.

God must have needed a good general contractor and planner, because I cant think of any other reason God took him when he did.

My Uncle Bill was a friend and confidant who will be missed in unspeakable terms.

We Love you

Bill Cooksey will easily be remembered by many for having character. He honored his wife and family everyday. He was enjoyable to know and to do business with. Bill left us with all of saying the same thing, "Great Guy, they don't make them like that anymore..."
God Bless you and your family!

Bill, I loved ya like a brother I never had. I'll do my best to help take care of Monica and the kids while you are apart. And I'll miss you - no one around to give me grief about being the 'short sister'. I look forward to seeing you again, when my time comes.

Even as a person who is very seldom at a loss for words, I am having some trouble with this one. Bill was my Uncle and my Godfather, and will no doubt be missed by everyone who crossed paths with him. I couldn't help but notice in this guestbook that there were people that had only heard his voice over the phone and never met him in real life but felt a connection with him, and this is a testament to the kind of person Bill was. Any time I would call the house he wold answer "well hello Godson," and I will never forget that. I remember woodshop projects, first in the garage and later the shed. I remember the trip we took to Concan, and all of the family gatherings. I remember Bill, Troy, and my Dad drinking crown and telling dirty jokes at Christmas time, it was as sure a tradition as Nana's divinity! Life just won't be the same without Bill in it, but we are all so blessed to have this wonderful man play a part in our lives. Aunt Monica, I and the rest of the family are there for you, and are praying for you and thinking about you, just as you always have for us. My cousins Erin and Kasey, you are so blessed to have had such a wonderful dad who really and truly loved his girls. Andrew, Lindsay, Claire, and Connor, your Pap will always be there watching out for you, never forget that. A mischevious, artistic, athletic, outdoorsy, wonderful, loving, teasing, angling man has been lost to our world and gained to another. We can all rest a little easier knowing that Ole Meaux was waiting for him on the Rainbow Bridge, and that two old friends are together again in the Sky.
I'll Love you and Miss you, Uncle Bill.

Your Godson,

I have such fond memories of childhood vacations to S. Padre and Concan with Uncle Bill, Aunt Monica, Kasey & Erin. I will never forget sitting on the back porch of our cabin in Concan at night with Uncle Bill telling us if we looked hard enough we would see "wompass cats" in the woods! That still makes me laugh today and I'm still not sure what a wompass cat is!
Uncle Bill will be deeply missed and always remembered.

Monica
We are so saddened by his passing. It just doesn't seem right somehow, that such a great man as he who is so joyful and fun and mischievous would be called away so soon. We truly are thankful to have had the chance to know and work with him, and especially the bike trips we took through the hill country. I'll see him on the next ride in the blue yonder, but in the meantime if there is anything we can do to help, let us know.

I had the distinct honor to play basketball with Bill and later, to coach him during his career at Texas A&M. His dedication and work ethic were among the best on the team, and his sense of humor could calm any tense situation. I knew him to carry these attributes into private life where I know he made a huge difference, and now has left a fine, shining legacy. It was too soon, my friend, and you will be sorely missed.

My sincerest condolences go to Monica and the rest of his family as you all attempt to deal with such a staggering loss. I pray you will receive God's Peace and His Grace to help all of you cope with your loss.

Bill, or Cookie as I knew him, was my cousin. The last time I saw him, I think was at Kasey's wedding. He and Monica were so excited about Kasey and his love for his family was beyond measure. We had a great time and I will never forget his smile and the warmth that he always had. To hug Cookie was like being held tight by a big bear and to feel more secure than you have ever felt in your life. Cookie, you were mom's favorite nephew and I miss her even more. My heart is heavy, but I know you are with her and Aunt Lois in Heaven, looking down with love. We are stronger because of you and you will be missed every day until we see you again. Monica and girls, keep your eyes on the Lord until we are all together again. I love you. Lisa
