Alvin Kohut Obituary

ALVIN BENJAMIN KOHUT (August 30, 1929 - March 28, 2009) Alvin Benjamin Kohut, (b. 1926) spent a long and fulfilling life as a devoted family man, outdoors enthusiast, and full blooded Texan. Born in Burlington, Texas to Alois and Lydia Kohut, Alvin spent his youth in the country on a family farm, living through the Great Depression. He graduated from Rogers High School then traveled the world as a merchant marine, proudly serving in World War II. After honorably completing his military service, he returned to Texas, attended business college and married his sweetheart, Doris and started his family. Together Alvin and Doris raised three sons, Gary, Marc and Darren in the suburbs of Houston. Alvin dedicated his career to the steamship industry, retiring from Kerr Steamship Co. over 20 years ago. Alvin lived an honorable and respectful life and was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be sorely missed by all of those who loved him dearly. Visitation will be held from 6:00PM-9:00PM, Monday, March 30, 2009 at Klein Funeral Home. We will celebrate Alvin's life on 11:00AM, Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at Cypress United Methodist Church, followed by a private family burial at a later time. The Kohut family and friends fondly remember years of exploring the Texas Hill Country with Alvin, camping in Wimberly and Inks Lake State park. He loved the ocean and Texas lakes and rivers, and spent weekends taking his sons boating and fishing and shrimping in Trinity and Galveston Bays. Alvin is preceded in death by his parents, Alois and Lydia Kohut and his brother Louis. He is survived by his wife, Doris, of 55 years, sons Gary and wife Laurie, Marc and wife Cindy, Darren and wife Ronda, and seven grandchildren Meridith, Morgan, Cole, Marilyn, Mallory, Benjamin, and Regan. Memorial Contributions may be made to Cypress United Methodist Church, 13403 Cypress North Houston Road, Cypress, Texas, 77429, 281-469-0730 or Houston Area Parkinson Society, 2700 SW Freeway #295, Houston, Texas, 77098, 713-626-7114.

Dear Kohuts...I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Al and our prayers are certainly with you! He was a great individual who will always remain in my thoughts as a permanent loving, caring and funny individual from my youthful days of being around him. I thank him for taking me with the family to the lake and farm...fishing, skiing, hunting, ridding motorcycles and "shooting up the countryside"! Al will be truly and dearly missed!

Here's to you Mr. Alvin Kohut yhakshemash...yhakshemash!!!

Sincerly,
Vinnie

Darren/Marc/Gary/Doris,

We are so sorry to hear of Al's passing. Big Al as I used to call him, was a kind man and wonderful Father. The Kohut house was always a pleasant place to hang as a kid growing up. I remember all the trips and great memories going to Little Arkansas, Lake Sommerville, and the farm. Our hearts and prayers go out to you and your families.

Doris and family, Alvin always made me laugh. When I was a little girl every time Mom & Dad would brings us to your house or you would come visit us, he would make me laugh. As I grew older and the times were fewer, he would make me laugh. When I became an adult and the times even fewer, he would make me laugh. I wish him that same laughter he shared with so many, and is now sharing with our God and Father.
