Brother Max was such an inspiration to me. He has shown me that there is more for us to do out there to reach lost souls for Christ. And I want to continue in his foot steps. I was to thank you, Dahila & Max for everything you guys have done for our youth group. Brother Max will never be forgotten. I will remember him for the rest of my days. I love your family very much.

Uncle Max. I don't even know where to begin. First of all, I am so blessed to be able to call you my uncle. I loved our family gatherings, where you always kept the jokes going (: I will always cherish those wonderful memories. Although its been a while since you went to be with the Lord, I still can't believe it. I keep thinking that when I go to Houston, your gonna be there at the hotel waiting for us like always. I miss you Uncle Max. I will do my best to make you proud. Love you!

I am greatly sorry for your loss Dahlia and the boys...Max was an inspiration to me, he showed me the importance in helping others, just as he helped me. I wish I could have gone to the funeral, but I did not hear of his passing until it was too late so I am very sorry I was not able to pay my respects. He will be missed greatly.

To Max:
Starry, starry night.
writing emails, what to say?
Wishing you would write today,
With eyes that know the sadness in my soul.
A call that never rings
Surfing through your blog listings
Hear the music, Myspacing,
Words to never be displayed upon my screen
Now I understand what you tried to say to me,
How you suffered for humanity,
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen, they did not know how.
Perhaps they'll listen now.
Starry, starry night.
Riding on your motorbike,
Coming from LABI,
As a loving father you would often do,
His Word is always true
Church candles are lit to glow,
People sing as teardrops flow,
Are soothed beneath the Creator's loving hand.
Now I understand what you tried to say to me,
How you suffered for humanity,
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen, they did not know how.
Perhaps they'll listen now.
For they wished to love you,
But still your love was true.
And when no hope was left in sight
On that starry, starry night,
You lost your life, as Christ would do for you.
But I could have told you, Max,
This world was never meant for one
As beautiful as you.
Starry, starry night.
Blog sitting without a word,
Listening to what’s not heard,
With eyes that watch the world and won’t forget.
Like the strangers that you've met,
The ragged souls in ragged clothes,
Young ones bearing many woes,
That lead them to the loving, saving Lord..
Now I think I know what you tried to say to me,
How you suffered for humanity,
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen, but there listening now.
Perhaps you showed us how.

Cousin Dahlia,
We received the sad news on Sunday evening. Though our lives have only rarely intersected, we are grateful for having met Max. I have since learned much more about him by reading the posts. Clearly, he was judged a great person in the eyes of his family and friends.
The loss of such great persons is immeasurable, certainly not reducible to a mere disruption of our balance. Their absence is palpable and challenges our sense of wholeness. We may liken our grief to a cup of memories always filling, but never quite full. Cousin, we weep and pray with you. May God comfort you with His healing grace and eternal hope of glory.

dolly and the boys,
when i heard of max's passing, my heart sank and it's like everything stopped for a few seconds. my love, thoughts and prayers are with each of you as you all enter a new chapter in your lives. i recall so many great memories of max during the years i sat under his leadership. i remember how he gave me the opportunity to preach my first sermon in the chapel and the endless times he prayed over me. i remember his stern lectures as he confronted me before i chose to serve GOD wholeheartedly. in retrospect, i recall those harsh words of correction and rebuke with appreciation. as i've learned, we cannot correct what we will not confront. max's correction served with tough love helped me get back on track for the Lord and His work, and i have never gone back. i pray GOD'S peace and strength over you as the reality of your loss becomes more evident in the days and weeks ahead.

Remembering Max brings a smile to my face. I have good memories of him when I was a kid. I remember being in a car packed with cousins and Max was driving and the music was going. There was Max opening and closing the driver door to the beat of the music while driving. He is priceless. I didn't get to see him much after I grew up but I can see He worked tirelessly for the Lord. I am so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine. Much love from my family, Reuben, Sheri, and Michaela Luna

Torres Family,
We were heart broken to learn the passing of Bro. Max. Please accept our condolenses. Bro. Max was inspirational to our lives and was a mighty magnificent Man of God. I remember one year at a Singles Conference in Houston, Bro. Max joined our "girl's table" at a banquet and he gave a simple message... FIND A MAN AFTER GOD'S OWN HEART. Bro. Max, I found one. Thank you for that inspirational message.

Dear Dolly,
Bro. Max, my youth pastor, will be dearly missed. I am so very proud to have been part of such a dynamic youth ministry. I will miss him dearly. He in so many ways planted seeds of goodness in my heart. I will also be very grateful to him for the way that he always embraced my brother Kenneth. I will never forget how he and Ken would sit and play "Pente". Bro. Max had a heart for the deaf and it was reflected through his compassion toward my brother. I just wish I could have told him more how much that really meant to me. Dolly, I love you and the boys very much, ya'll mean a great deal to me. Praying for you always, Nina

Cousin, I'm very sorry for your loss. Although Max's spiritual influence upon my life was very early in my childhood, it still resonates in my heart and memory today. I remember when he sang to you for the first time in the chapel at El Tab Dahlia. He was so nervous! But what an impact it made upon my life. Michael, my little cousin, or at least when he was a little boy, you have already stepped into your father's shoes. You are a man who fears God and loves Jesus. Therefore, your father has completed his task in you and in your brothers. Continue on with the torch and stay the course. We love and miss all of you. And we're praying for each one of you. God Bless You,

Dahlia and sons:
Please accept our sincere condolences for the loss of your husband and father. After hearing Friday night's service, we did not know how much Max impacted others. When Sheila Jackson Lee said, that we had not only lost a husband, a father and a friend but we had lost a great Patriarch, it really made us realize how great your husband/father was. He impacted the life of my son tremendously. Max encouraged him to be part of the Leader’s of Tomorrow program that he was involved with and at the end of the program, my son got a scholarship, all because Max persisted that he attended the meetings. What a great legacy Max left for his sons and future generations. We pray God gives you peace, strength and perseverance to finish the race ahead.

I am so sorry for your loss. Max will be greatly missed. During Friday night's service when Erik was up there singing his heart out, he reminded me so much of Max. I can remember many years ago singing on the praise and worship team, and remembering Max making all of these funny faces at us while he played his guitar!! He would crack us up!!! :) Its funny now, because I can not remember a time when Max did not have that bright smile on his face, he lighted up the world with that smile. Dear Torres Family,
I was so shocked and saddened to hear about Max's passing. My sympathy and prayers go out to his family. I knew Max for years professionally, and had the honor of serving on a Board with him for several years. Max truly "walked with the Lord”, he was a great man… I have never known anyone who had such a heart to help young people. I will always admire his passion and dedication. He was and always will be an example of what one person can do to make a difference. He will be missed by so many.

I want to thank you for sharing your Husband/Dad with me and my family. If you ever need a friend to talk too or just a friend you can call on me and my family any day or night.
Today while was out buying groceries my daughter came over and saw Max's picture on my dresser she was very upset with me that I didn't tell her my friend that had past was MAX. I asked her how did she know him, she said from high school @ LECJ and one time again @ JB's. She said that Max invited her to his church one day,so she asked her boyfriend to go with her and they enjoyed hearing MAX. I will really miss seeing his smiling face and his "good mornings" but I am very greatful for having met the most wonderful giving man on this earth. My heart is hurting, but now that I know that MAX helped my daughter Riva and was a mentor in her life. I am so happy to know both me, my daughter and her new baby to be will always have an Angel in Heaven name MAX watching over us. Also Max take care my loving husband Melo when he is on duty and off duty.. We will be riding our bikes TO THE MAXXX !!!!! Por Vida !!!

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

I only knew Max very casually. The last time I saw him was at The Mayor's Hispanic Heritage Awards dinner. He introduced me to some fiends, as usual he was very nice. Never did it occur to me that that was the last time I would see him. He was an excellent person, Christian and friend. I have been thinking about him all day today. I have not been able to get him out of my mind. I wish I had gotten to know him better. He loved his sons, that I know. It's a burden that he proudly carried on his shoulders.
I miss you Max. I know I will see you again in the morning.

Max made such an impact on my life (and everyone who knew him!). I met him when I was about 16 years old...I'm 32 now!
Max was very instrumental in helping me get connected to the right places and people when I called him to tell him that I had been called to work with gangs at age 18. At that time, he was the only person I knew who was doing anything of the sort. Of course, he sent me to volunteer at Sam Houston! But that little push and his encouragement that I would do great at this, got me going in the right direction and I haven't stopped since. Thanks Max, for believing in me!
Since those days back when I met him, he became one of my greatest mentors, colleagues and friends. Dahlia and boys, know that your husband/dad will be missed greatly.
We're sad today, but I know that he would want us to celebrate the fact that he is in the presence of his King! Well done, Max! You made it!
Love,
Liz

I was saddened to hear the news about Max. My thoughts and prayers immediately went to Dahlia and the boys. Max was a great inspiration in my life. I will always remember his words of encouragement and the many times he laid hands on me for prayer. I always felt the presence of God working through him to touch my life. I know that Max is now walking with our Lord Jesus Christ and we too shall one day see him. Dahlia I pray that God strengthen you in the days to come. I know that life will be difficult without the one that made you laugh, but you know that God is with you and He will see you through these difficult times. Sister Dahlia and sons,
I am so sorry for your loss. Brother Max was a great servant of God. He had a great love for the lost. He was a generous and kind man. I remember about sixteen years ago, I was a student at L.A.B.I. and I was helping Brother Ben Flores with children’s church during Sunday School seminars. When we went to Tab I went to take care of the children and found myself overwhelmed by so many. I tried not to show my fear but I didn't know what to do. Brother Max began to help me gain control of the situation I think I remember him playing a guitar or singing, I am not sure. What I do remember is feeling relieved and grateful that he was there and that he had compassion for this “green” bible school student. I have never forgotten his act of kindness. I will always remember him fondly. He touched so many lives and blessed so many people that we will never know how many until we see the Lord.
Thank-You Brother Max

He had a heart for God and was passionate about ministry and young people. Everytime I spoke to him at a convention, he blessed me and encouraged me. I will continue to pray for you guys in the coming weeks. Love and prayers, Dina (Espinoza) Roiz
