Laura McGlenn Obituary

Laura Grimes McGlenn of Helena, MT, formerly of Middleton, ID, died with her loving family around her on July 2, 2007, six days before her 58th birthday, from Acute Mylogenous Leukemia.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 7th, at 11:00 a.m. in the Middleton Idaho LDS, 2nd Ward Chapel, 22500 Lansing Lane, with Bishop George Quenzer conducting. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell.
Laura was born on July 8, 1949, in Oakland, CA, to Garyl and Bonnie Fisher. The family home was in San Lorenzo, CA, where Laura attended school until l961 when the family moved to Eugene, Oregon. It was there she graduated from North Eugene High School in 1967. She extended her education for two years at Ricks Junior College in Rexburg, ID.
Soon after leaving Ricks, Laura married Donald Grimes, and from that union she was blessed with five children. Her marriage ended in 1994 and it was then that Laura's entrepreneurial talents blossomed. Subsequent years saw her develop a fine art business on the Oregon Coast; a gift shop and horse carriage trade in Enterprise, OR, and a flower and gift shop in Middleton, ID.
In the spring of 2004, Laura met Roger McGlenn, an insurance executive from Helena, MT. Laura recognized Roger as a man of great integrity and high morals, and was convinced that she had found her eternal mate. In order to develop their relationship, Laura closed her flower shop in Middleton, and moved to Helena where she secured employment as manager of the flooring and window covering department for Home Depot. From her apartment overlooking Helena, Laura pursued her courtship with Roger, who lived with his son down the hill from where Laura had set up housekeeping with her faithful dog Gizmo.
Laura and Roger were married in Helena the day after Thanksgiving in 2006. Their love and devotion to one another was storybook in its nature.
Laura was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Over the years she served in many church positions one of her favorites was that of Relief Society President. When those close to her became discouraged or depressed it was her unique ability to encourage and uplift. She was a truly warm and loving mother and friend, undeterred in her capacity to help others.
Laura is survived by her loving husband Roger of Helena, her parents, Garyl and Bonnie Fisher of Star, ID, five adoring children: Gwen Grimes of Barrow, AK, Nicki and Andrew Anderson of Middleton, Aaron and Mandy Grimes of Green River, WY, Kristen Files of Little Rock, AR., and Kara Grimes of Parma, ID. Four sisters: Caryl and Scott Christensen of Boise, Barbara Bashan of Boise, Nancy and John Hochhalter of Pocatello, and Rebecca and Gary Hansen of Kaysville, UT., and eighteen grandchildren who adore Grandma Laura. Viewing is scheduled for Friday, July 6th, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church. Visitation will also be one hour prior to service. Internment will be at Dry Creek Cemetery.
Laura was never without a wonderful, optimistic outlook of life.

Dear Laura, you had to have been a one of a kind lady given the remarkable love and joy you clearly spread to those who knew you. Our relationship with you was never formalized but knowing your big handsome husband Roger gives us every indication that we would have been fast friends from the moment we met. Special people like you and Roger are gifts of life. We will do our best to wrap up your fellow and keep him safe by letting him know how important he is to us. Carolyn and Charlie Yegen

Laura,

I never had the privilege of meeting you or spending time with you, but you are special; you recognized the qualities in Roger McGlenn that those of us that know and love him have seen for years; devotion, dedication, trust, loyalty and love. While your time with him was so very brief, it displayed a quality that few of us will ever know, Roger adored you and you made him incredibly happy. For this single accomplishment, You will always have my admiration and be my friend; You are Roger's solemate which in a simplistic way gives you a place in the hearts of all who share your love for Roger.

Rest in peace Laura Grimes McGlenn with the knowledge that you really left this mortal life a better place for your very being and the brief time you shared with my friend Roger.

Laura was new to Helena as were we when introduced in 2005. She was immediately a friend and her optimism and joy were contagious. When she married Roger last November, we shared in their happiness. We are better for having known her.

Our prayers and thoughts are with her family, especially to Roger who loved her so much.
