Lorraine Thompson Obituary

Lorraine K. Thompson, 85, of Nampa, died at her home on Monday, Sept. 28, 2009. Graveside services will be held today, Tuesday, Sept. 29, at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, Boise, at 1 p.m.
Lorraine was born on Nov. 9, 1923, at her family home in Tolstoy, S.D. to Frederick J. and Freida (Jakober) Steiger. She attended schools in South Dakota before her family moved to Nampa. During WWII she worked in the Shipyards in Vancouver, Wash., as a welder. Following that she moved to a small town on the Montana/Idaho border and then finally moved to Boise. It was here that she met William Thompson at Lloyd's restaurant. After being convinced by her father that William was a good man, they later married on Oct. 3, 1948, at Winnemucca, Nev.
The two traveled to together living mainly in Sioux Falls, S.D., because of Bill's car racing career.
While in South Dakota she worked for Hyde Jewelers and was also known to be quite the seamstress and knitter. In 1968 Lorraine and Bill moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, following Bill's retirement from the trucking industry as a vice president. They would eventually move to Nampa in June of 2000 to be close to family.
Lorraine loved to play cards, especially, Trash, Bingo, and Pinochle with her friends.
She was a faithful member of the Baha'i faith, serving as a member of the local spiritual assembly in Boise; Marin Co., Calif.; Sioux Falls, S.D.; Granger, Utah; and Nampa.
She is survived by her husband, William "Bill" Thompson of Nampa; daughter, Wilma Jean Anderson and husband Bertin of Blythe, Calif.; sister, Wilma of Nampa; brother, Roger and wife Dee of Nampa. She is also survived by one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Wilbur; and two sisters, Lee and Gladys.
Arrangements are under the direction of Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel (404 10th Ave. So.; Nampa; 466-3545).

I would like to express my deepest sympathy to your family. It has always been said that the wife and mother is the “heart” of the home. May you find strength from God to let your home always be filled with your mother’s kind spirit. (2 Corinthians 4:7)
