Aurora M. Vickers

Aurora M. Vickers Resident of Newark, CA entered peacefully into rest at home in Newark, CA. Born September 28, 1932 in San Francisco, CA, she was 77 years old. A native of the Mission district of San Francisco before moving to Newark in 1963 where she never missed a Newark Days Parade. She enjoyed gardening and cooking and made thousands of tacos for numerous organizations in support of theme activities. She was a long time active member of St. Edward Catholic Church and volunteered at the school where she was known as "Grandma". She also volunteered at the Newark schools her children attended and was a band volunteer at Newark High School where she was called the "Taco Mama". She was a dear friend of the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose. Beloved wife of 53 years to David G. Vickers of Newark, CA. Loving mother of son John "Jack" Vickers of Newark, CA and twin daughters Julie A. Castro and husband Gerardo of Newark, CA and Angela J. Rosas, MD and husband Fernando of Sacramento, CA. Dearest sister of Albert Gomez of Olympia, WA and Paul Gomez of San Francisco, CA. Devoted grandmother of Cristina, Victoria, David, Marion, Julia and Michael. Loving "Auntie Rory" of many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation Monday, September 13th from 3:00-6:00 p.m. held at Berge-Pappas-Smith Chapel of the Angels, 40842 Fremont Blvd, Fremont, followed by a 7:00 p.m. vigil held at St. Edward Catholic Church 5788 Thornton Ave., Newark, CA. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 14th held at St. Edward Catholic Church. She will be laid to rest at Golden Gate National Cemetery.
