Catherine Lorraine Mattera

Catherine Lorraine Mattera Cathy, 63, was born December 27, 1946. She peacefully left her earthly body, surrounded by her family, on September 9, 2010 in Livermore, California. Born in San Pedro, California, she is survived by her loving husband and best friend, Tom Mattera, and five children: Cynthia Lukin, Carrie Grenier, Chanda Lukin, Marc Mattera, and Christa Mattera; her faithful Dachshund, Bigge; her son in love, Real Grenier, and seven grandchildren. Many loving friends and family members will miss her company, humor, and eternal faith. Cathy fought courageously during a three year battle with Multiple Myeloma. More important than her struggle was her life. She was full of faith, hope and love, and was the best friend for which anyone could ever ask. Cathy was loyal and supportive, and nothing anyone could do to her was ever big enough not to forgive. She prayed diligently up until the very end for everyone. She had an ongoing list of each family member and friend in need of prayer. She was full of life, love, and fun! Her generosity was an inspiration to one and all. She has placed a bit of all of these great characteristics in each of her family members. Cathy was a model in her younger days and remained beautiful in body to her passing. More than her outward beauty was her incredibly gorgeous spirit. Cathy brought a smile to the face of all the people she met and left memories that will never be forgotten. "To be loved is to live forever in someone else's heart." A vigil will be held at St.Charles Borromeo, in Livermore, on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 7 pm. A life Celebration Mass will be offered on Wednesday, September 15, at 11am at St. Charles, followed by a reception at the church.
