Dennis McMahon Obituary

Dennis Duggan McMahon Resident of San Francisco passed away at home in San Francisco on September 11, 2010 after an extended illness. He is survived by his wife Linda Landucci, daughter Stephanie McMahon of New York, and son Philip McMahon of San Francisco and his wife Kristen. Born on November 16, 1944 in Omaha, Nebraska to Dr. Frank and Mary Jeanne McMahon (both now deceased), Dennis grew up in Fremont, California and attended Bellarmine High School in San Jose and followed his father's footsteps through Creighton University in Omaha, graduating with his degree in philosophy. After serving the Navy in Vietnam, he returned to the Bay Area where he met and married the love of his life, Linda. They settled in San Francisco. As the oldest of six McMahon children, Dennis is survived by Kathleen Sekreta of Sammamish, WA, Bill McMahon of Red Bluff, CA, Maribeth Hoelmer of Newark, DE, Shannon McMahon of Fremont, CA and Tricia McMahon of Keizer, OR. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Norma Landucci of San Francisco, in-laws Paul Landucci of San Francisco, Rick Landucci of Greenbrae, CA, and Elaine Hennessy of Walnut Creek, CA, and eighteen nieces and nephews. Dennis was fervent about his family and his faith. He loved family gatherings, school activities, and vacations, both with his own and extended family. He and Linda shared a enthusiasm for local high school and college sports teams. Dennis cherished his parish community of St. Cecilia's and dedicated his time to training altar servers and participating in Sunday services - a ministry that was inspiring within his own life and to those he encountered. As a storyteller extra-ordinaire, he offered knowledge and experiences about family, golf, politics, trivia, sports, everything. During the recall election in 2003, he campaigned as a gubernatorial candidate to share his vision for the future of California. His mind and heart were full and rich and he eagerly shared both with those he met. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made to Sutter VNA & Hospice in San Francisco. Visitation for family and friends will begin at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, September 14th at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave., Daly City, CA. A Vigil Service will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday Evening, also at Duggan's Serra. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 15th at 10 a.m. at St. Cecilia Church, 2555 17th Avenue, San Francisco. Committal will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, 1500 Old Mission Road, Colma. DUGGAN'S SERRA MORTUARY 650-756-4500

We are relatively new parishioners of St. Cecilia's and as such had noticed the loving escort of Mr. McMahon by his wife Linda, as they entered the church. We also had noticed the joy in his face as he passed the collection basket to us. Father Landi had announced the death of Mr. McMahon at last Sunday's service and despite never meeting him, we felt very saddened. He now is in our prayers. Sincerely, Mary and Joseph Lee
