Belmont "Dutch" Hoffman

Belmont "Dutch" Hoffman Jul. 26, 1930 - Sept. 29, 2010 Former resident of Newark Dutch passed away peacefully, surrounded by his three daughters on Wednesday, September 29 at Kaiser Hospital Manteca. He was eighty years young. He was the second of two children born to Myra and Belmont Hoffman on July 26, 1930 in Smithboro, Illinois. Dutch served as an airman first class in the Korean War. Upon his discharge, he married the love of his life and best friend Barbara. The couple moved to Newark, California to raise a family. He was employed as a technical editor for Hiller Aircraft Aviation for ten years and worked at the United States Air force Defense Depot in Burlingame for twenty-five years. Dutch was a thirty-eight year resident of Newark and moved to Tracy in 2001. He was a member of St. Edwards Parish and an active member of "The Men's Club" and Knights of Columbus, After moving to Tracy he became a member of St. Bernard's Parish. Dutch believed in giving of himself to his family and others. He was always a familiar face at the Niles Flea Market, church festivals and chamber events selling linguica sandwiches. Everyone knew him for his quick wit and trademark sense of humor. However, Dutch's favorite roles in life were of husband, father and grandfather. He dedicated his life to the happiness and well being of his entire family. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara of fifty years. He is survived by his three daughters Mary Bitzer, Patricia Swansick and Kathleen Hoffman; son-in- laws David Bitzer, Donald Swansick and his grandchildren Alexander Bitzer, Christopher Bitzer and Lauren Swansick; all of Tracy. A Catholic Mass celebrating the life of Belmont Hoffman will be held Thursday October 7, 2010 at 10:30 am at St. Bernard's Catholic Church. A Rosary will be held on Wednesday October 6, 2010 at 6:30 pm at Hotchkiss Mortuary 5 W. Highland Ave. Tracy.
