Russelll Gilbert Obituary

Russell (R. Lee) Gilbert Feb 15, 1930 ~ Oct 5, 2010 Resident of Livermore Russell Gilbert of Livermore, CA passed away Tuesday Oct. 5th, after a long battle with cancer. Russ was born in Hamilton, MO in 1930 and moved to Livermore with his family when he was a child Russ worked in the grocery business for 25 years and then was a co-owner of the Matador Lounge in Livermore for another 25 years. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed traveling in his motor home. His favorite place to go was Parker Arizona where he would spend a few months of each year. He is preceded in death by his son, Rick Gilbert in 2001 and his wife Ginger Gilbert in 2007. Russ is survived by his brother, Bill Gilbert of Turlock and daughter Cindy Cook of Castro Valley. He also has three grandsons, Danny, Steven and Mathew. His memorial service will be held on Monday, October 11th at 3:30 PM at Callaghan Mortuary, 3833 East Avenue, Livermore. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests memorial donations in Russ' name be made to the American Cancer Society P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718 or your favorite charity. To Cindy and family,
As the son of one of the "Hill" sisters, I have many memories of back yard gatherings at Aunt Betty Lee's home on 7th Street in Livermore. The bond of the "Hill" cousins was strong and remains strong today. Your parents were the first relatives to visit us after we moved to the Oregon coast.
Since we moved in 2003, Vikki and I have missed most of the Hill family events that we would have otherwise attended.
We send our sympathy to you and your family at this sad time.
