James Fontes Obituary

James Robert Fontes Resident of Fremont Jim Fontes, a former longtime resident of Fremont, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, October 3, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. Jim was born on October 5, 1952 to Bill and Mary Fontes and spent most of his life in Fremont before moving to Cameron Park, CA. He is survived by his loving wife, Carrie Fontes, his daughter and son-in-law Heather and Reggie Sweat, his grandsons; Juan, Tevaris, and Josiah, his parents, his sister and brother-in-law Joan and Lou Cuneo, his brother Joe Fontes, his nephew Kevin Petros, his niece Kimberly Petros, his father- and mother-in-law George and Carol Cantaloub, his brother- and sister-in-law, Mike and Terry Cantaloub, as well as many cousins, aunts, uncles and dear friends. Jim graduated from Mission San Jose High School in Fremont and was a longtime member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters. Jim was a builder. For almost 40 years he enjoyed working with his hands as a cement mason, a carpenter and construction superintendent. His skills and passion for building contributed to many projects throughout California, including hospitals, office buildings, entertainment centers, and high-tech campuses. And he derived much pleasure by generously contributing these same skills willingly to home projects of family and friends. Jim enjoyed spending time with friends and family and was known for his generosity, his quick wit, and big heart. Jim was an avid outdoorsman who loved fly fishing and pheasant hunting with his black lab, Bogey. Jim's family wants to acknowledge the loving support and generosity from all his friends during this difficult time. Remembrances on Jim's behalf can be made to the American Cancer Society for continued prevention and treatment research. A memorial service, a celebration of Jim's life, will be held at the Fremont Senior Center, 40086 Paseo Padre Pkwy, on Saturday Oct. 23 at 1:00 PM.

I have known Jim and his family my whole life. ( 51 Years) As I reflect on the passing of Jim, I know he is in a better place. I will always remember Jim as my best fried Joe's big brother. Jim was larger than life and I remember many adventures with Jim and Joe from fishing in the early mornings, to visits in Cascade. His memory will always be in my heart. May his family find peace in his passing, and have the knowledge that Jim touched many lives, as a friend, Big Brother, mentor, helper, husband, son and great guy. Take care

I also was a classmate of Jim. We had many classes together during our four years at Mission San Jose High School and became really good friends. I could always count on Jim to make me laugh. He was a wonderful, loveable, and very funny individual. My prayers and deepest sympathies go out to his family.

As a classmate from Mission San Jose H S;
My thoughts and prayers go to Jim's family and friends at this time.
H.S. was a special time in our lives where we spent many hours with friends that to soon grauduated, and we lost track of them. But still the fun years in H.S. tarry in our memories. Blessings to the Fontes Family. My Jim's soul rest in peace.

My heart goes out to the Fontes family whom I have known for many, many years since our husbands were in Toastmasters when our children were young. Jim was so lucky to have wonderful support from his family and his dear wife Carrie. I pray that they can soon remember only the good times..the sweet memories that will last forever. May Jim rest in peace and may his family find peace in knowing that Jim is in good hands now and without pain and suffering..
