Lowell A. Levant

Lowell A. Levant, 65 Resident of Newark passed away peacefully on October 10, 2010, after a brief illness. Born in St. Paul, MN, he graduated from Fairfax High School in Los Angeles and attended the University of California, Berkeley. Lowell was a participant in the Free Speech Movement and a conscientious objector during the Vietnam War who did alternate service. He had the twin vocations of poet and truck driver. Lowell was a compassionate and generous person who deeply touched the lives of others. He is survived by his brother, Ronald, sister-in-law, Carol Slatter, niece, Caren, great nephews Adrian and Jeremy Shanker, uncle and aunt, Arwin and Merle Gould, uncle, Allen Adler, and many cousins, members of the extended family and friends. A memorial service to celebrate Lowell's life will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2010. Reception at 1pm, service at 2pm, at the University of California, Berkeley, Alumni Hall.
