Betty SOE Obituary

Betty V. Soe Resident of Berkeley On Sept 21, 2010, Betty V. Soe, went on to sleep eternally forever with her family by her side. Betty was a dedicated wife, mom, grandma and friend who loved knitting and spending time with her grandchildren. Betty Chew was born on Oct.16, 1930 in Oakland. She graduated from Oakland High and worked for the Alameda Co. Welfare Department. Betty married Andrew Soe in 1959 and lived in Berkeley for over 50 years. In 1967 Betty and Andy bought, Rose and Grove Market, at the corner of Grove St. and Rose St. (now 1343 MLK Jr. Way) in Berkeley. For 30 years, they not only sold groceries and sandwiches, but offered good talk, kindness, and friendship to a close knit Berkeley neighborhood. Her love and kindness will live on forever. Betty is survived by her sons, Roger, Clifford (Kathy), and Bradley(Chi); Her grandchildren Emily, Ryan, Alexander and Aimee Chi. We will celebrate Betty's life on Sun, Oct. 24th at 2pm at El Cerrito Community Ctr., 7007 Moeser Ln., El Cerrito, CA 94530. Donations can be made to Students Rising Above, P.O. Box 29174, SF, CA 94129 or your favorite charity.

Betty truly loved her grandkids, and it was a pleasure to see her enjoying time with them. Although we will miss her greatly, we'll remember sharing good times, lots of food, and a glass of wine, or two.
