Violette Lillian Holmoe Carmichael

Violette Lillian Holmoe Carmichael July 1, 1918 - Oct. 6, 2010 Resident of Fairfield, Ca Vi was born in Baltic, South Dakota to Olaf and Ida Holmoe. She was schooled in rural schools in Dell Rapids, South Dakota, and received her nurses training at Anchor Hospital, St.Paul,Minnesota. Following graduation from nursing school she moved to Hollywood, California where she worked at Cedar Sinai Hospital. Vi enlisted as an Ensign into the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps in 1942 and was stationed at the U.S. Naval Hospital, San Diego. Later she was assigned to the U.S. Naval Hospital, Honolulu, HI where she cared for wounded veterans returning from the South Pacific. Her naval career covered assignments in nurse recruitment, stateside hospitals, and overseas in Japan, Italy and Lebanon. In 1956 she met and married Captain William K. Lawlor, serving together at many assignments. Vi retired as a Lt. Commander from U.S. Naval Hospital, Oakland, Ca. Bill Lawlor passed away in 1977. In 1989 Vi married her new found love, a retired U.S. Marine, Edward Carmichael. Vi and Ed moved to Paradise Valley, a military officers retirement community, in Fairfield, Ca. where they lived and enjoyed life until she passed away. Vi was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Hazel Irene Hoops, and brother Ivan Holmoe. She is survived by her husband Edward Carmichael, brothers Orville Holmoe and Ruth, Robert Holmoe and Joan, and Olaf Holmoe, JR and Mary, and many nieces and nephews. Military Services and internment were held October 13, 2010 at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, Dixon California.
