Eugene Washington Obituary

Eugene Washington Resident of Oakland, CA Born October 13, 1918 to Mose and Mary Bell Washington, was the youngest of three children. Both parents and siblings Samuel and Mary Ella Hall preceded him in death. He began his life in Belzonia, Mississippi growing up in the Humphrey County Yazoo City areas. Lived and worked in this area until he entered the Army in 1943 and was discharged in California in 1947. Settled in the Bay Area first living in Alameda,CA and later buying a home residing in Oakland, CA until his death. Eugene was a "master roofer" with Alta Roofing Co. of San Francisco, CA from 1948 until his retirement in 1978. A proud Local 40 member for 60 years. During his life enjoyed fishing and hunting was an excellent cook and had established a relationship with the Lord. A member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church since 1978. He loved hosting the Naomi Circle meetings and attending Bible Class. He was rewarded to live 92 years passing away on Saturday, October 23, 2010. The legacy of his life are in the memories of the following: his children Eugene, Edward (Minnie), Tyrone (Audrey), Brenda Turley, Deborah and Ramet (Alva) Edna and Joseph preceded him in death; nieces Marjorie Green, Jackie Tyler, Thelma Moore, Betty Palmer, Chris Tana Wright, Ira Dell; nephews Timothy Robinson, Jerome Wright Jr; in-laws Jerome Wright Sr, Deloris Washington, Erin Alexander, Gerald Rice and Shirley Washington (deceased); long time friends Eddie and Geneva McDaniel and Emma and A C Fairley; 34 grand and great-grandchildren and over 24 grand and great-grand nieces and nephews and many friends. Funeral Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Bethel Baptist Church, 6901 Herbert Guice Way at 22:00am. Public Viewing begins at 11 until 7 at Fouche's Hudson Funeral Home, 3665 Telegraph Ave., Oakland, CA. We have just heard of the passing of our cousin Hi-Tie. which is what we called him. We are the surviving siblings of Florence Hutchins Johnson who was the sister of your grandmother Mary Bell..
