Marian FINGER Obituary

Marian I. Finger Resident of Livermore Marian Irvine Finger, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend passed away at the age of 74 from cancer on October 17, 2010 at her home. Marian was known by both her friends and family as a kind, generous and intelligent woman. Marian was highly involved in the local community, teaching for many years in the Livermore school system and participating in book, bridge, sewing and other social and civic groups. She was passionate about world and national affairs. She played a significant role in the debate over the teaching of Creationism in public schools and maintained a library of research covering the topic which has been archived at Iowa Sate University. She was also an advocate for public health issues, researching and advising others on protection in flu epidemics. However, Marian will be most remembered for her positive attitude, kindness and compassion for others. She was quick to drop off videos, books or favorite foods to friends in times of illness or discomfort. Marian also loved delighting her dear nieces and nephews with gifts to inspire learning and creativity. Marian saw the best in everyone and made close friends wherever she adventured. Marian is survived by Milton Finger, her husband of 46 years; a sister; four bothers; and by her children Dr. Erik Brian Finger and Alicia Maura Finger. Marian's Celebration of Life Memorial will take place on Saturday, November 13, beginning at 10:30am in the Sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church, located at 2020 5th Street, Livermore, California. This will be followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers the family urges contributions to Hope Hospice and/or the Building Fund of the First Presbyterian Church in remembrance of Marian.
