Shirley Ann Barker Gillespie May 11, 1949 ~ Nov. 1, 2010 Resident of Dublin Shirley Ann Barker Gillespie passed away on Monday, November 1, 2010, after her battle with brain cancer. She was a beloved woman who touched many lives with her kindness and friendship. Shirley was born in Oakland, California to Olen and Lorene Barker. She graduated from Tennyson High School in Hayward, California in 1967 and went on to earn an Associates Degree from Chabot Community College in 1999. She was married in 1969 to Donn Gillespie, and they had a daughter, Crystal Dawn Gillespie in 1972. Shirley enjoyed a long career with Safeway at their corporate office for the past 37 years. She was involved with organizations such as the Tennyson High Alumni, the Safeway Employee's Association, and the Association for Retired Safeway Employees. She had a special talent for keeping people connected. Shirley was a friend for life. Shirley is survived by her loving daughter Crystal Lawrence and son-in-law Michael Lawrence, and her three grandchildren, Cobi, Sophia, and Savannah of Portland, Oregon; her mother Lorene Barker of Fallbrook, California; her uncle Roy Keck of Fallbrook, California; her sister Loretta McCullough Langston of Stockton, California; her brother Charles Barker of Copperopolis, California; and her brother William Barker of Stockton, California. She was predeceased by her sister Doris Savage. Her generous loving spirit will be missed by all her friends and loved ones. A Memorial Service is scheduled on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at 2:00 in the afternoon at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward, California (510) 471-3363. A Celebration of Life reception will immediately follow at the same location.
