Virginia NEUMAN Obituary
Virginia L. Neuman 1909 ~ 2010 Resident of Rossmoor The family of Virginia Neuman lost a bright star in their galaxy with the recent passing of their mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on October 16, following a brief illness. Virginia was born on April 20, 1909 in Pittsburgh, PA, to the late Ione and Percival Jones and grew up in Willows, CA. She was the sister of the late John Paul Jones, an attorney in Oakland, and William R. Jones of Waterford, CA and Ross-moor. Virginia leaves behind her beloved children daughter JoAnne Sheridan of Alameda; son Dick Neuman and his wife Sheri of Albuquerque, NM; and son Jim Neuman and his wife Susan of Santa Barbara. Her 5 grandchildren include Lisa Sheridan of Santa Fe, NM; Bill Sheridan and his wife Amy and great-grandchildren Sierra Jaime and Rogan Sheridan of Brentwood; granddaughter Katie Neuman of Beaverton, OR; grandson Dave Neuman of San Mateo; granddaughter Caroline Neuman and her husband Daniel Perrin; and great-grandchildren Henry, Pippa and Charlotte in Bermuda. In addition, Virginia leaves behind cherished nieces and nephews from both sides of her family and their children as well as friends and neighbors in Rossmoor, where she lived for the past 41 years. Known to her many friends and family as Ginny, she was happily married for 44 years to Charlie Neuman, a Senior Vice-President of Wells Fargo Bank before he passed away in 1974. They raised their family in Lafayette before moving to Oakland and then on to Rossmoor when it first opened. Ginny enjoyed being a housewife and mother, singing in St. Perpetua's choir, volunteering with the Providence Hospital Guild and belonging to local chapters of both the D.A.R and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Ginny was an avid bridge player and enjoyed golf and camaraderie as a longtime member of Contra Costa Country Club until she was 90. While at Rossmoor, she took up painting landscapes, and enjoyed enhancing her mother's extensive stamp collection as a member of Rossmoor's Philatelic Society. In addition to playing golf together, Ginny and Charlie participated in various Concourse events with their vintage Bentleys. Last year Virginia celebrated her centennial birthday with a garden party for 100 guests at Rossmoor's Dollar Clubhouse, where she shared her philosophy of quality living and longevity through daily exercise, positive attitude and being happy. She inspired all who were privileged to know and share her love and friendship. Although Ginny's bright star has dimmed, her light will shine in the memory of those whose lives she touched. A private graveside service was held October 21 with a Celebration of Life for family and friends on November 21 at Claremont Country Club. Donations in memory of Virginia Neuman may be made to Hospice Foundation of the East Bay, 3470 Buskirk Ave., Pleasant Hill, CA 94523, or to a charity of your choice.
