Eva F. Parker

Eva F. Parker Resident of Fremont Apr. 18, 1918 - Nov. 27, 2010 Eva Parker passed away at home on Saturday, November 27 after living a long life with family and friends. Born in the prairie of Fort Collins, Colorado, Eva started life as a fighter. Born premature and her mother dying in childbirth, she was raised by her uncle, Cesario Martinez and her sister-in-law Rose. At the age of twelve, she was placed in a Catholic Orphanage after the death of her stepmother, a year later her stepfather passed away. She learned the fine art of sewing, ironing and darning and was the favorite of the nuns to work on their habits. Upon graduation she was nanny to the Bell children and she enjoyed being "Santa" to her four nieces and nephew. She had a close relationship with the Lovato and the Valdez families. She met her husband, Harry at the skating rink in Denver where he was stationed for basic training. Correspondence during the war and a train ticket from Harry brought her to the sunshine state. The first thing she saw were the California Poppy (later to become her favorite flower), and smelled and saw the wonderful orange orchards in Southern California. She enjoyed dancing (being a member of the Merry Mixers group), bowling at the Cloverleaf Bowl, crocheting, crafts, drinking margaritas at Chevy's and she played a mean game of Yahtzee almost everyday. She will be missed by those that loved her for the "cute" sense of humor and her commitment to family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, her children Marty, Jack and Denise, grandchildren Angela, Nikk and Kevin and great-grandchildren Desiree, Kayla and Adreanna. Visitation will be at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward (510-471-3363) Thursday, December 2 starting at 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.; rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be on Friday, December 3 at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Spirit Church (797-1660) in Fremont. All are invited for food and memories after the mass at Shinn Park and Arboretum, Shinn House Archive room, 1251 Peralta Boulevard, Fremont, CA.
