Lucille Brown Obituary

Lucille Mary Brown Sept. 8, 1916 - Dec. 2, 2010 Resident of Fremont (Niles) Entered into rest on December 2, 2010 in Fremont at the age of 94. Preceded in death by her husband Ruel Brown in 1995. Devoted mother to Ruel "Skeeter" Brown and his wife Mavis, and Harriett M. Whitney and Len Gasiorek. Loving grandmother to Caroline, Susan, and Elizabeth. Caring great-grandmother to Helena, Chloe, and Tyler. Dear sister-in-law to Lola Alves. Also survived by nieces and nephews. Born on September 8, 1916 in Oceano, Lucille moved to Niles when she was two years old and lived there for 92 years. She graduated from Niles Grammar School and later from Washington High School in 1934. She worked as a sales person and appliance repair person for Niles Electric Company. After that she became the secretary for the principal at Vallejo Elementary School for 20 years, retiring in 1976. Lucille and Ruel were known for their generous hospitality and good food, shared with family and friends, were avid golfers and never missed a weekend of golfing with friends. They traveled extensively after they retired. They loved the Oakland Raiders and Oakland A's and held season tickets for both for many years. After Ruel's passing, Lucille and her sister-in-law Millie Brown took BART together to go to Oakland A's games. Lucille was a member of the Y.L.I. since 1934. She contributed 7,388 volunteer hours of service over a course of 5 years with the Washington Hospital Volunteer League before she became ill. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 7, 5-8pm with a vigil at 7pm at Fremont Chapel of the Roses, 1940 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, 94536. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 8, 10am at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 37891 2nd Street, Fremont, 94536. Donations may be made to the Washington Hospital Service League Volunteers, 2000 Mowry Avenue, Fremont, 94538. Fremont Chapel of the Roses (510) 797-1900
