Joan Morrow Obituary

Joan Helen Morrow Bay Area Resident Following a long and heroic struggle against cancer, Joan died peacefully at home surrounded by her family and closest friends on November 20, 2010. A resident of the East Bay for more than 40 years, Joan received her B.A. from Berkeley in Sociology in 1972. She worked as a Real Estate Broker for Prudential for over 25 years. She was often seen around the campus of Mills College walking her adored German Shepherds with her partner of 37 years, Sandy Bazyouros. Joan was an avid reader and delighted in sampling all the fine restaurants the Bay Area offered. She had an indelible memory and could recount not only the restaurant, but what each person ordered for dinner, years later. She had a ready wit and her conversation was always punctuated with her clear intelligence and illuminating perceptions. More than anything, she was devoted to her partner, Sandy, and to their dogs, Titan and Syrah who were a great comfort to her in her long battle. She had countless friends who loved her and will miss her ready smile and countenance. Joan was born on June 19, 1942 in Olympia, Washington and is survived by her partner, Sandy, a sister, Linda (Marvin Leichty), brother Dennis Ransdell and nieces Amanda and Samantha. Donations in Joan's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.

I was so saddened to hear of Joan's passing. She was a remarkable person of great charm, wit and intelligence. While I didn't see Joan and Sandy too often, when we did get to cross paths it was always a fun and happy reunion! She was special. I am glad that she is now free from pain.

Joan and Sandy were some of my first friends when I moved to San Francisco in 1978. They opened up their home and their hearts to me. Joan will be remembered for her smile and her love of life. Sandy will hopefully find comfort in the years they had together and the deep friendships that remain intact.

Joan Helen was a loving friend, and someone I could laugh with as well as cry when the occasion called for it! She remains in my heart, but I will always miss the person and friend she was to me for 38 great years! Heaven has a new angel to watch over all Joan's friends and family, now, and I know she is happy, and free of pain, finally! I love you and I will always miss you Joan! Love Judy (Hynes)

I remember meeting Joan in 1980, as I had just bought a house from Joan and Sandy's colleague Barbara. I remember Joan as being funny, sincere, and great to be around. I became a realtor several years ago and always enjoyed calling Joan to talk a bit of shop.

I was struck and very sad to hear of her passing, however,, she clearly had a good life, a life that was hers. She was a wonderful, loved and loving, sharing person. I am glad to have crossed paths with her. My best wishes to Sandy and the rest of her family.
