Sherry Warrick, Executive Director Emeritus at International House shares a memory of Clarence's dedication to the House:
My favorite story about Clarence had to do with a union strike in which all stationery and other engineers on campus walked out. Along with others, being a union man, he joined the demonstration lines carrying placards, but late at night unbeknownst to anyone but me he would sneak back into the building , check to make sure the elevators and other machinery essential to the operation of the building were ok, and if not, would engage in undertaking repairs. Then satisfied he would return to the picket lines, march along with the other protesters. This was his building. Work outage or no work outage, he was going to make sure it functioned smoothly at all times!
