Mary Matto Obituary

Mary (Mari) Margaret Matto Aug. 13, 1915 - Dec. 22, 2010 Resident of Fremont Mary, loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother has joined her husband Bill in Heaven. She was the eldest of thirteen children born to Rose (Bold) Schmitt and Paul Anton Schmitt in the Fruitvale district of Oakland, California. She attended St. Elizabeth's grammar and high school. Mary and Bill lived for many years in Oakland, with their five children, before moving to Fremont in 1963. Mary was an artist of note, a member of the Fremont Art Association, Artist's Guild of the East Bay. She was also active in various ministries including the Legion of Mary and Dominican Guild at St. Joseph's parish. Mary is survived by 2 sisters, Shatz Margaret Robideaux, and Theresa Schexnayder; her 5 children, Donald W. Matto, George R. Matto, Regina B. Icanberry, Allen J, Matto, Christine M. Padilla, their spouses as well as 18 Grandchildren, and so far 23 Great grandchildren. A Funeral, memorial Mass for Mary will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church located at 43148 Mission Boulevard, Fremont, CA 94539 on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. followed by a reception in the parish hall. Donations may be made in Mom's memory to Sister John Marie's Pantry St Joseph's Parish.

Rest in peace, Mary. Thanks for being terrific next door neighbors to me, my family, and my parents. We were very fortunate to have you as neighbors, and it won't be the same at home without you and Bill there.
