Clare E. Godfrey

Clare E. Godfrey July 19, 1930 - Jan. 8, 2011 Resident of Union City Entered into rest on January 8, 2011 at the age of 80. Devoted mother to Fred Godfrey and his wife Marilyn of Alameda, and Mike Godfrey of San Jose. Loving grandmother to Andrew, Olivia, Michael, Deedee, Misty, and Abbie. Cherished sister of Eudora Watkins & her husband Bob of IL. Dear mother-in-law to Marie Godfrey of WA. Preceded in death by her husband Richard Godfrey in 2009, and by her son Stephen Godfrey in 2009. Clare was born and raised in La Grange, IL, a suburb of Chicago. She met Richard Godfrey, her husband of almost 45 years, while he was working at a Naval Recruiting Center in the Chicago area. As a Navy wife, she moved her family to Virginia, California, Hawaii, and Japan before settling down in Union City CA where she lived for the next 40 years. Clare was very active in the LDS Church and also volunteered a lot of her time on behalf of the California School for the Deaf in Fremont. She loved to travel and enjoyed leisurely drives. She was devoted to her family and grandchildren. Clare loved baseball, especially her beloved Oakland A's and she always enjoyed a trip to the ballpark. Viewing will be held on Friday, January 14, from 9:30-11am with a funeral service at 11am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 34201 Alvarado-Niles Rd., Union City, CA 94587.
