Mr. Nowicki was my favorite & most influential teacher at WFB H.S. I was in his class from 1964-1968 and was the WFB Art Club President. He taught me the scumbling painting technique + I submitted my work of art to two national art contests and as a result, won the top 1968 Wisconsin Gold Key Award from the National Scholastic Art & Writing Competition & was also given the State of Wisconsin Hallmark Award (1968). Mr. Nowicki told me I really put WFB H.S. on the map. He was a brilliant teacher and ignited a lifelong fire & passion within me for art. I am so grateful that I had the insight to take 4 years of Mr. Nowicki's classes. Thanks to the inspiring Mr. Nowicki, fine art has been my refuge ever since. I have lived in NYC for over 30 years and revel in the constant stream of art that flows through this cultured city. Thank you so much, Mr. Nowicki. If there is a heaven and if I make it there, I hope you will continue to give me art lessons for nothing would please me more than to learn from you for all eternity and absorb your quiet, kind, gracious and certain wisdom. Your most grateful student, Mary Elizabeth (Gaynon) Gray

I would like to express my deepest sympathy to the Nowicki Family. Your lost loved one was my art teacher at Cumberland School in the 1950s. He never would have pegged me for an artist let alone the art teacher and art museum professional I eventually became. After graduating from Whitefish Bay High School I spent most of my professional life out of state. By chance I encountered Mr. Nowicki one day at the Milwaukee Airport some years ago. After several double takes we recognized one another and had a cordial conversation. Erv was a demanding, but caring, educator and a wonderful man who will be missed by all who had the good fortune to say they were a student of his.

How sorry I am to hear of Mr. Nowicki's death. I have such fond memories of attending his art classes at Cumberland school in Whitefish Bay in the 1950s. Although my artistic skills were close to zero, he had unlimited patience with me (and dare I say others), and was so kind to all of us. He will be missed.

To the entire Nowicki Family I send my sympathy and good wishes. I had the extreme good fortune of having had him as a valued teacher and friend lo those many years ago at WFB High School (1955 - 1959). How well I remember the distinctive "little white patch" and the ever-present smile and good, gentle nature. He had an extraordinarily positive impact on many young lives - including mine. My regret is that we lost touch over the years and now . . . . .
