Dear Courtney and the Horkheimer family,
I met Dan through the Milwaukee TEC retreat program and have many fond memories of him on our various retreats. Dan had a great sense of humor and could make even the darkest moments a lot easier to get through. He was always ready to help with any project thrown at him and I was always amazed at his energy level. He will truly be missed by so many people.

Mr & Mrs. Horkheimer, Mary, Kelly, Rob, and Kevin,
When Mary called me today to tell me about what happened to Dan, all the memories of growing up with the Horkheimer family came flooding back. While I still remember Dan most vividly as one of Mary's "little" brothers, reading some of the memories others had of Dan that Mary sent to me helped me to see the wonderful man Dan had become. My thoughts and prayers are now with your family as I know yours were with mine when we needed them.

My deepest condolences to Dan's wife Courtney, all of his family and all of his friends. I practiced family law at Legal Services of Eastern Missouri 2003-2005 and Dan really helped me with a couple of immigrant clients. Even in such limited interaction, it was clear that he was a very good and kind person. God bless him and all of his loved ones. May you find the strength to carry on in his name after this senseless tragedy.

Dear Courtney and Horkheimer Family,
Nicole and I were heartsick to hear of Dan's untimely death. I attended St. Pius X in Bob's class and Nicole (Dunn) and I spent many good times with Dan and Courtney at SLU.
I believe Dan made the world better by being kind, caring and genuine with every person he met. God bless his soul for eternity and may you find solace during this tragic time.

Courtney, I am a friend of your Mom's and know how very deeply she loved Dan and loves you. Your Mom is an incredible woman and by the transitive property, you must be also. I don't know the words to say that can console you in this tragedy, but please know that my thoughts and my prayers are with you as you try to make sense of the non and struggle with the daily activities that now seem both insignificant and monumental. I hope this quote from David Searles gives you some comfort: "Seeing death as the end of life is like seeing the horizon as the end of the ocean."

My sincere condolences for your loss. Michaela Siewert phoned me today from Cincinnati with this terrible news. I went to St. Pius X elemetrary as well as MUHS and was in the same grade as Kevin. What I remember most about Dan was his George Bush, Sr. impersonation during a school sponsered music festival which was so warmly received by all. Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I am so sorry for your loss. I am in disbelief. I worked in the Guidance Department at Marquette University High School as the College Counselor. Dan was not just a phenomenal student, he was an incredible young man that had the respect of everyone who knew him. He cared about others, and gave of himself to others. You will be in my prayers.

I am so sorry to hear about Dan. I know Dan from retreats that I have done with him. He will always be remember for everything that he has done. I knew Danny while growing up across the street from the Horkheimers. Mr. and Mrs. Horkheimer, Mary Ann, Kelly, Bobby and Kevin - I'm deeply troubled and saddened by your loss. what an awful disappointment this has been to me,it is really unbelievable to have such a wonderful man gone...I've met DAN couple times in his office as an immigrant client,he has been so helpful and extra nice to me.
i'll be forever thankfull to him for all his efforts and help to have me legally in the united state.

I was so saddened to hear of your loss. I met Dan once, and found him to be a very pleasant young man. I'm an old friend of his sister Kelly. I'm soon to be a Detective with the City of St. Francis in Wisconsin and have been on the force for 16+ years. I pray that the local police will find and prosecute those involved in this tragic case. Courtney, there are no words I can express that will compare with what you are going through. Dan was a person with such a calm spirit about him that no one even compares with him. Dan first became an aquaintance, as we both studied for accreditation, then he became my co-worker and last, my supervisor, educator and my friend. I will truly miss him. May God be with you and carry you through these hard trials. Just know that your strength comes from God and he is and always will be the strength of your life!
