Walter S. "Wally" Monger III

WELLINGTON - Monger, Walter S. III "Wally," died Friday morning, June 3, 2005, at his home west of Wellington. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, June 7, 2005 in the chapel of Hawks Funeral Home, Wellington. The Rev. Thomas Thompson of the First Baptist Church will officiate with interment in Osborne Cemetery, Mayfield, KS. Wally was born Sept. 19, 1946 in Wichita, the son of Walter S. and Lois (Jones) Monger II. He lived his life in central Kansas. He attended Derby schools and graduated with the class of 1964. He then attended Wichita State for 2 years. He and Marla Faker were married in Wichita on Dec. 16, 1967. He was a strong, industrious individual with leadership abilities that matured in early life. He bagen full time employment with Safeway, where he became assistant store manager. In the late 1970's he moved with his family to Wellington to manage Oklahoma Tire and Supply. He then owned his own business in Wellington, when he purchased the Wellington Gambles Store. Later he owned and operated a successful lawn mowing business with many commercial clients. Wally's untimely death was due to an illness he bravely fought, but could not overcome. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Donna and brother, Larry. Survivors include his wife, Marla of the home; sons, Walter IV of Overland Park, David and wife, Sumer of Wellington; daughter, Rebecca Worden and husband, Chris of Roeland Park; brothers, Jerry, Timothy and wife, Teri all of Wichita; sisters, Susan Story and husband, Bryan of Denver, Patricia Monger and husband, Ralph Pudritz of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada; 5 granddaughters; several nieces and nephews. Wally had a great compassion, especially for homeless animals, a thoughtful patriotism, and an abiding love his family and friends. We will miss him.
