Not a day goes by that I don't think about you. I was lucky to have someone as special as you in my life. You were the joy in life. A happy soul in all that your short life endured. I am sure your friends didn't have a clue of what you had been though because you always had a happy attitude. You were a wonderful person to look up to. Ronnie, back in gradeschool in eureka, we were best friends always hangin out goin around havin a great time. I couldnt believe it when I heard what had happened, but may you rest in peace. You did nothing but put smiles on everyones faces, and always made people happy. You really knew how to turn the worst situation into somethin almost everyone could enjoy simply because of your attitude and your outlook on everything. I never got the chance to meet Ronnie, but have heard nothing but great things about him. My husband was in Iraq with Ronnie and expresses often how he misses his dear friend and fellow soldier. Ronald A. Schmidt was truly a great person. He was a hero and he was a born leader. It's sad, because after he died, I finally realized the reality of life and I wish I could thank him, but I can't. The only thing I can do now is press onward and learn from the experience I had in Iraq with him and my unit. My condolences to his family and his friends. He was truly great person.

I did not know your son but mine is 18 and just graduated from Newton High. As a single mom, I cannot imagine what it must be like to lose him so young. I remember Ronnie from when he and my son, Josh, were classmates at Mulberry Elementary in Eureka. Ronnie would come over to our house, and he and Josh would be off on their bikes--likely heading off to what they called the "cement pond". I made a mistake in my little entry. I don't think Ronnie ever went to our High School but I definately remember him from middle school. I just can't believe this is him. I never really saw much of Ron after that but we did have a friendship in school.I hate hearing about deaths like this in general but his is just bad on a different level because I knew him. You do not know us but we have had a son serving over in Iraq from September 2006 until August 2007 and then two weeks befpre he got home we got the news that his older brother got orders to go to Iraq. That son was in the same unit that Ronnie was in so they met in Newton then went to Salina then to Ft. Bliss, TX together. We have three sons that were in the National Guards at one time. Our sorrows go out to you and your family as we are to be prepared for things but then when it comes to this we are never prepared. May God be with you and your family.

I've been thinking of Ronnie since I saw the story in the news. I remember him from his grade school days in Eureka. He was so cute, and had a way of pursing his lips and talking in a cartoonish voice - He always seemed to be happy, and was able to make others around him happy. He'll be missed by all who knew him. I am so sorry you have to go through this pain of losing what kept your heart beating... your son. Although I never met Ronnie, I still wipe away the tears as I read about what a wonderful person he was..and also what a hero he was and still is for our country.
He is finally "home" with his best friend ( his grandpa) and also all the others who have left this earth plane to cross over to the place where there is nothing but happiness, laughter and love. Keep his memories close to you and know that..even though you can not see him or touch him right now.. all you have to do is "talk to him, or think about him " and he will be right beside you...surrounding you with his comfort and his love.

Please accept my sincere sympathy on the loss of your son and our Country's Hero. I knew his grandparents and they lived on the farm where I first remember visiting my grandparents in 1947. God has called your son into his loving arms and I know you heart aches as do those who grieve at the loss of a hero at such a young young age. God Bless You and give you peace through these difficult days. I lived in Severy for many many years.

I didn't know your son, but I wanted to express my gratitude for your son's bravery to allow my family to enjoy our freedom. He sounded like a young man who would not have done it any other way. You should be very proud. We are very sorry for your loss. You are in our prayers.

Dear Schmidt Family,
We want to express our deepest sympathy and to also Thank-you for having a son like Ron, because if it wasn't for men like him, we wouldn't have the freedom you and I enjoy today.-You don't know us, but our son is in Iraq right now. He is older than your son but he was a wrestler like your son, when he was younger. He was an Acedemic All-American wrestler in the NAIA. He still enjoyed wrestling with his men when he was in Iraq on the tour he had before this one. There is something special about those wrestler's. God Bless You All and Thank-you again for your son. Our heart goes out to you all.

We were so saddened to hear of Ronnie's death, and we send you our heart felt sympathy.
I was Ronnie's 1st gr teacher at Mulberry Elem. School in Eureka, KS. and knew is grandparents and uncles since we all attended the Methodist Church there in Eureka.
May the love of family and friends bring you comfort, may God's love bring you peace.
