Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Zachary M. Alday US Navy Hospitalman. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

I probably think of Zachary once every few months even though I never had the opportunity to know him. I did serve along with the rest of his buddies after he passed though and saw how much it hurt them to see him gone. Doc from 1/7

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Zachary, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

What's up Zack,

Just wanted to stop by and drop a line. I'm over here in the sandbox...again and was thinkin about all the crap all of us went through last time we were here. It's a little better here this time than last, given the circumstances, and I'm almost done. Can't wait to get back to the States, again. I talk to your folks on a regular basis. Just recieved a letter from them the other day. Your mom's the greatest! She really worries about us over here. But, she has nothing to worry about. You're making sure we're all looked after. Don't worry about her either, she's well taken care of by us and the rest of your family. Anyway, just wanted to drop a line. Keep heaven smilin!

Mr. and Mrs. Alday,
First of all let me say my deepest sympathies are with you for the loss of your son. My family lost someone too in Veitnam with the last name of Alday and was also a hospital corpsman. I am still looking for his family in Georgia or Florida. I am wondering if you could be the family I have been looking for. I pray for peace everyday that no more of our sons will die in war. From the other entries I have read of your son, I know he is missed tremendously.

Happy Birthday in Heaven. May God hold you in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

August 16, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

To All Parents
“I’ll lend you for a little time a child of Mine,” He said.
“For you to love the While he lives and mourn for when he’s dead.
It may be six or seven years, or 22 or three,
But will you, till I call him back, take care of him for me?
He’ll bring his charms to gladden you, and shall his stay be brief.
You’ll have his lovely memories as solace and relief.
“I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return,
But there are some lessons taught down there I want this child to learn.
I’ve looked the wide world over in my search for teachers true
And from the throngs that crowd life’s lanes I have selected you.
Now will you give him all your love, nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate Me when I come to take him back again?”
For all the joy Thy child shall bring, the risk of grief we’ll run.
We’ll shelter him with tenderness, we’ll love him while we may
And for the happiness we’ve known forever grateful stay;
But shall the angels call for him much sooner than we’ve planned.
We’ll brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand.”

I truely miss your sense of humor and hearing stories about your little girl. I got the extreme honor to meet your family and I got to return your dirty clothes to them. Don't worry though my wife washed it all and folded it neatly. Not a day goes by that I don't think of you. I thank you so very much for the opportunity I had to serve with you. Alday was a great friend. I knew him from Field Medical Service School and had the privelege to serve alongside him in Al Qa'im, Iraq. He was a strong person with a great heart. He was quiet most of the time, but knew how to bring life to any situation. I was stationed at the Shock Trauma Platoon, it's just an ER in Iraq, in Al Qa'im. I volunteered my time to go outside the wire and gather medical data from the Iraqi villages. In doing this, I got to go to the BP that Alday was stationed at, BP Guam. We got to know each other better, as he was the only Corpsman actually assigned there. So, when I would go out, I would always help him out by relieving him on his missions. He would take some and I would take some. I always enjoyed going out there and spending time with him. He was just so full of life, even living in the conditions he lived in. It made my time out there that much more enjoyable. I'm from Louisiana, so we had a lot to talk about both being from the South. I remember the last time I went to BP Guam, it rained like hell and it was leaking like crazy inside the hooches. He just smiled and said, "Just another day in Paradise." That's the last time I saw Alday. When I left, he said, "Well can't wait til u get back out here so I can relax again Doc." I told him I'd be back that next Saturday. Which would've been June 10.
Alday was an awesome Doc who was loved by his Marines and was a great brother to his fellow Sailors. He had an auora around him that could be felt by anyone in the room. He almost always had a smile on his face that would make anyone having the worst day ever have to smile. He loved his family, friends, and life. You will forever be missed buddy. I know I'll see you again one day. Semper Fidelis

I met Zach at Camp Pendleton (lab) where we both trained in drawing blood. He was a very polite young man, always smiling. I loved to hear him talk, I thought his Georgia accent was great!! So full of life and taken so quickly. I will always remember him with that smile of his and those eyes that just grabbed at you when he looked your way. It was an honor to have met you Alday, even though I have no family in the military but it does tug hard at my heart having known you if only a few months and learning of your passing just makes me realize that being in the military is for the strong at heart to know your out there fighting for your country and peace. God bless the family of this fine young man, who is enjoying the glory of the Lord.

Alday was a good man, he always had a joke, always had a smirk on his face, always was up to something. We shared a barracks room while we were PSI's at Camp Pendleton. The loss of a Brother is felt in every life they touched. Zach touched alot of lives, and he will be sorely missed, and highly respected by everyone who knew him. I would have laid down my life to bring him back home. Given the chance, I would do the same today.

Well Zack, it's your Birthday. Although you’re not physically with us, I know you’re with us spiritually. HAPPY BIRTHDAY bro! Please continue to watch over us and provide comfort for your family. I'm on leave right now and will be taking a trip to GA to visit you and your family. It seems like yesterday that we were in FMSS; hanging out and having a couple drinks out in town. Nikki sent me a CD of songs that remind us of you…I think I’ve played it everyday since I received it in Iraq.

Take Care Bro, and until we meet again.

It seems like just yesterday that I talked to you....and I wish everyday that I could just have the opportunity to talk to you one more time...just to have you make me smile:-) You could always make the worst day turn into the happiest with your crazy sense of humor. You are truly my hero and not a day goes by that you are not in my mind, my heart, and my soul. Please continue to be my guardian angel and watch over me...I can't wait until we meet again! You are my angel that gives me wings to fly with love...Jess

Alday-

My brother; It seems like just a few weeks ago I was teaching you all about the NHCP lab, both of us chosen to battle the war on terror. Now, I get back and learn the sacrifice you made for your country...you are a true hero and you will ALWAYS be remembered.

Until we meet again...

Dear Zachary,

We didn't know one another but shared the same last name. I am of Mexican/Apache heritage from Arizona and you were obviuosly Causcasian from Georgia, but in our hearts we are both American. My prayers and sincere condolences to your family for their tragic loss. The Aldays have fought and died for this country since it's beginning and now you have paid the ultimate price for the freedoms and commitments we hold so dear. I can promise nothing for the unselfish offering of your life for us Zachary, but what I can offer is the undying gratitude and knowledge that I will never forget you and those like you who have given so much to this nation. I too served in Combat during the Vietnam war and did so proudly in 1968. May God bless those of us who clearly see that this country is worth fighting and dying for and may the nation remember your sacrifice when the war is over......Respectfully your friend,

Andrew Alday,

Alpha Company, 3rd Battalion,

22nd Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, Vietnam - 1968.

My son is LCPL Dave Martin, marine corps, who was serving with your son in Iraq. He is a member of the 1/7 WPNS 1st platoon at BP Saigon. He specifically asked that I send his condolences to you and your family. He said the memorial service in Iraq was the hardest thing he has ever done, and yet the most important. He fondly remembers "doc" and will greatly miss seeing him back at 29 palms. It is amazing how close our sons get in just a short amount of time and how important their military friendships are to them. Please know that he is thinking of "Doc Alday" and that he describes him as one of those special people who really cared, and loved to help others.

dear mr. & mrs. alday,

i knew your son very well we spent alot of time together while he was stationed here at camp pen. your son was just a wonderful person. i will never forget our walk on the beach, or when i had to show him around the lab, when he first got stationed here at camp pen. in june 05. he used to tell how things were in ga. and how different things were here in ca. he told me he was gonna take me there one day. he told me how much he loved his daughter and we went shopping for her when i took him to the mall to go buy some running shoes. he called you all from my phone to asked what size she wore and then i picked out some outfits for her. on oct 15, 05 i had to pick him up from a casino in palm springs because he got left there, and that is the last i heard from him. i will miss your son so much and i want to let him know that i loved him too. he was a really good friend to me. i am so sorry to hear about your lost. may god bless you and your family. tell McKenna (what he called her) that her daddy loved her so much. he will never be forgotten!!! thank you so much for your son.

ZACK WAS A SPORT AND EVERYONE LOVED HIM AND THAT NIGHT HE SHINED LIKE A MILLION STARS ABOVE. HIS PRIDE IN HIS NEW ADVENTURE WAS TAKING HIM WHERE HE WANTED TO BE.........TO SERVE HIS COUNTRY THEN REST IN THE ARMS OF GOD.
