You all know how special Karen is to me. If you don't, just ask me. One of the best things she did for me was to get me back into the current music scene. She wanted to go to a concert & Mom & Dad thought she might be too young to go. She said " Aunt Susie will go and look after me." And I did. And I had one of the best times ever. She always had a way of making sure everybody got what they needed. I know she is now an angel watching over me.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Our deepest and heartfelt prayers are with you. Please know that we care for all of you and will continue to lift you up in prayer. We had no idea that Karen lived in Georgetown. My husband and I have lived here for several years and I probably have seen Karen in town! I have many happy memories of your entire family when you lived on Chatham Road.

We pray you will be comforted and strengthened by those who love you and by our Lord's loving arms.

Kay,Glenn,Debbie,Becky:
My heart is broken. Eva just called me to tell me about Karen. She had just heard about it. I just can't believe it. I am so sorry. There aren't enough words to express my heartfelt sympathy to two of the finest people I have ever been priviledged to know. We all cherish the time we shared, when you lived on Chatham Road, with your three girls. Our sorrow cannot be justly expressed. May our Lord and Savior keep you in the palm of His hands and give you comfort now and forever more. You will most certainly be in our hearts and prayers.
Lovingly, Dorene Stopher and Family

I will remember Karen as a faithful PTA volunteer at Anne Mason Elementary. She served on the PTA board and did what was needed at the school. She always tried to do what she could to help the students and staff.

As the school nurse at Anne Mason Elementary School, I will remember Karen most for being a great Mom. Whenever I called her about one of her children being sick, she had a response of caring and concern. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

A loving greeting to Karen's family from Georgetown College

I was blessed to have had Karen as my student this fall semester of 2007. She added so much to the class. Her sharp intellect, non-compromising values, and desire to serve children made her a wonderful resource for discussion and learning in our course. Many times, I counted on her to push the discussion forward and the issue deeper. Karen was not afraid to speak her mind.

At the end of the semester, we met for a class and family get-together at the meetinghouse on campus. Karen sat in the big wing chair in front of the fireplace with her kids on her lap and besides her. She had all the time in the world to visit, talk, and truly connect with me for a last time. We had a wonderful conversation woman to woman and mother to mother. She helped me clean up the messy kitchen and rooms mess at the end after others had left and picked up a chore where I was not overly skilled….

As a professor, I truly enjoy staying in touch with my former students and to hear from them how their lives and work are progressing. I looked forward to seeing Karen again in the hallways and the parking lot in those late hours where our wonderful graduate students come to join us on campus.

Today, I learned about her passing when opening the newspaper. Since then, I received several calls and e-mails from other members of our class who are very upset. I am sure I will get more… her class friends have a hard time accepting the news. So we turn to each other for support.

Karen affected us very much and left us here grateful to have spent the last semester with her. We will not see her on campus anymore but she will still remain part of our Georgetown Family. Her thoughts and ideas will work within us in the future. We will try to be the best teachers to all children, especially those who lost a parent, while thinking of Karen and her family.

May God bless her family and carry them in this time of sorrow.
