I had a shop next door to Dennis in El Segundo during the 90s, and spent hours watching him work his magic. More than a master craftsman, he was an artist. The things he could do with a blowtorch and a couple hand tools were not to be believed; the paint jobs flawless. Nobody better. I remember his credo, "bondo is not an option". See you later you old grouch. - John Allen

If it wasn't car racing, it was horse racing!
To many fond memories with Dennis and the whole family, I miss the weekend parties at the shop and race tracks. I'll crack open a coors for ya! Aloha~!

My son just called me to tell me of Dennis now painting the sky. I started telling my son of all the stories at the shop in Redondo Beach. I traded him book work at the shop & in return he painted my car. Every Friday night was a party.
Dennis, I'll be looking for your paintings in the sky.

I decided to look up an old friend and it was shocking to find the he had passed. It was a sad day for me. I knew he was not doing so good with his healh and I wanted to vist him to thank him for all the the things that he had taught me about body work and paint. He helped me paint my car when I was 22 years old. That guy was a grumpy old man but always made me Laugh. We will never be forgotten.

I moved from NY to CA in 1978 and worked as a painter for Dennis from circa 1978 to 1988. It was quite a learning experience and was always filled with lots of laughs. His family was like mine. Deeply shocked and saddened by news of his passing.

Wow! I was trying to find a friend I grew up with and came across this obituary of her father. I was their neighbor in the 80's and friends with his daughter Chrissy. We went to his shop in Redondo Beach quite a few times. He was a really nice guy who worked hard and loved what he did.
I'm really sorry to hear of his passing!

Dennis had a very important job at Shelby American. The image of the company, in racing or in production vehicles, depended so much on their looks and presentation. Dennis knew better than anybody else how to do that. He loved painting cars. Sometimes he had only a few hours to do it before they left for the race track. Dennis always managed it. He had passion and great patience. Later he showed us that he was also a very courageous man.
We'll miss you.

I have just learned of the passing of Dennis and I extend my condolences. Dennis and I met in the late 50s when we both worked at Joe Andersen's Custom Shop on Florence Ave. in Los Angeles. Dennis went into the Navy and I followed. We ended up both stationed at NAS Memphis. When we returned we again returned to auto custom work. But, I lost contact with Dennis. Then, we reunited in the 90s when he had his shop in Redondo Beach. Dennis was very, very talented especially with body work. He also was a great painter. He had a fast 6 cylinder GMC powered Chevy coupe back in the 50s and later purchsed a 59 Chevy. It was painted candy blue and was one of the best paint jobs ever done. I am very sorry to hear of his passing and will remember him as a premiere auto body man and painter.
