Joseph Cofrancesco Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved son, father and brother, Joseph (Joey) Cofrancesco. Joey was born in San Bernardino, CA, on November 18, 1958. Joey graduated from San Gorgonio High School in San Bernardino and following graduation, settled in Poway where he married and raised a family. He owned and managed Music Mart in Escondido and later, took over and managed the family business.
Joey was a gifted and talented musician. He played drums and harmonica and performed with various bands throughout San Diego. Joey took up the harmonica only because he wanted to play an instrument that was easier to transport than drums and his talent paid off when he won first place at the "Spring Harp Fest Harmonica Contest" in San Diego in 2005. He was always the first to volunteer and perform with family members during holidays and family gatherings. He was an exceptional musician and his love for music remained with him throughout his life.
Joey was also involved in the community and began coaching girl's soccer and softball teams in 1985. He served as Vice President of the Poway Soccer team and in 2002 was elected as Vice President of the Poway Bocce Club. Joey was a sports enthusiast and an avid sports fan. He was knowledgeable and informed about sports and enjoyed making the calls. Joey was witty, funny, and perceptive and everyone who knew Joey, enjoyed being around him.
Joey leaves behind his three children, April and husband Robert Ghionzoli of Texas, Amber Cofrancesco and partner, Britney Gonzalez of Poway, and Brandon Cofrancesco of Poway; his mother and father, Joseph and Ann Cofrancesco of Poway; his sisters, Rita Cofrancesco of Encinitas, Sara and husband Jim Cowell of Yucaipa, Elaine Cofrancesco and husband Roger Nedrow of Rancho Bernardo; and many other relatives.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service to celebrate Joey's life on Friday, February 27, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Poway-Bernardo Mortuary in Poway. A private interment will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Poway-Bernardo Mortuary in Poway. In lieu of flowers, anyone desiring to give a remembrance may make a donation in Joey's name to the Sharp Hospice Care Foundation, P.O. Box 3739, La Mesa, CA 91944-3739 or at (www.sharp.com/hospice).

I was friends when Joey would go to the concert at the Arena and SDSU. I had San Diego Ticket Exchange in San Diego & Joey loved sitting upfront and getting pictures to all the shows. Joey always had a smile on his face and loved his music store. Through all the changes and his life moving on he loved his kids. I last saw him at his house in Poway years ago but always thought of him. He was a great guy who really love music and the feel of being at live shows. I will miss him always and sen my best to his family at this time. He was a treasure and will always be a part of me.

I wish to extend my deepest sympathies to Joey's children and their families, his parents Joe and Ann, his sisters Rita, Elaine and Sarah and their families, for his unexpected and untimely passing.

Nothing can replace the presence of those we love when they have departed our earthly domain. But, the treasure of their love in our hearts, keeps their spirit a living testament to their continued presence among us. May this fondness and love always bring you comfort and happiness in Joey's memory.

I knew Joey for only a shoth time during his youth, before he had his own family and career. Even then, it was clear that his that his humor, high energy, passion for life and unbridled love of music would serve him well in his journey through life. Clearly, form reading his obituary, this was the case, and his was a life well lived. Joey, I apologize that I never thought to mention that I had lost two toes on my right foot--the significance never occured to me until you had mentioned it to me. May you rest in peace and when you're not resting, which you seldom did, let the musiic play on.

“The Almighty Band”

Play that harmonica that you loved so well
Heck bang the drums, and ring the bell
For Joey’s playin in the house tonight
With “The Almighty Band” that’s right!

Now take a seat and sit right down
And listen to that Awesome sound
The sweet tunes of Heaven’s band
Joey’s solo as he takes a stand.

Wow, I heard one Angel say
This guy Joey, can really play
And as she turned her head to cry
Another Angel, stopped and ask her why

These tears are happy ones I shed
For his spirit for life, lives beyond those dead
Oh, and Joey’s spark can’t ignite everything dim
You see the lights will never go out in Heaven,
That’s why God chose him.
