Tenderized by Love

Brainy and a perfectionist, Patrice Sobin was always a star corporate player. But it was not until 1994, at age 45, that she abruptly got in touch with her romantic side. That summer she got up the nerve to go by herself on a bus tour of Italy, and met a fellow voyager, Rolando Paz. He says he did not notice her until the last days of the trip, but later she told him that she knew from the start that they would be together.

The two were married only months later, and became inseparable. "I was her passion," said Mr. Paz. "She called me every day at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., no matter what. Even if it was an important meeting, everyone knew not to stop Patrice."

He returned the devotion, picking her up from work each night at Aon Corporation at the top of 2 World Trade Center. When she worked late, even past midnight, he stayed too, reading books in her office.

Friends remember that he changed her and made her softer and full of smiles. Together they traveled, collected art, bought a house and decorated it. Ms. Paz, still the perfectionist, sewed curtains by hand when she could have bought just what she wanted.

"I was sad we only had so few years together," said Mr. Paz, "but a colleague of Patrice's said to me, `You got more into those years than most married couples get into 30.' And it is true."

Not sure what to say?

Miss you again this year. I am so sad your brightness has been dimmed, but we won’t forget you.

Dear Patrice,

You may remember me. Our paths crossed for a few years as I and you worked at A&A. I left A&A in the early 1990's. I don't think we had too much interaction but I remember you as a smart witty young woman. I think I had known about your passing but never wrote to you. For some strange reason you entered a dream of mine last night. I ask myself why that would happen? I don't know but here I am writing to you 18 years later. Rest in peace and know you are...

I honor Patrice on my Facebook page every year on 9/11... Valerie Rodriguez

Patrice was the account executive for Allright Parking in Houston, Texas when I worked there as the Risk Manager. We were on the phone together on a weekly, sometimes daily basis. I always remember her positive enthusiasm and beautiful voice. During the renewal of our insurance program she came to Houston to deliver the quotes she had put together. I was enthralled by her beauty and the vitality in her eyes. She was every bit as kind as she was beautiful! I have not been able to go to New...

In Memory with
Honor & Respect.

I knew Patrice from Maryland-La Plata Hall. I think of her wit and pixish beauty on the anniversary of such a tragedy. May her memory always be for a blessing.

I think of Patrice all the time. She was the consummate insurance person. I am still hanging in there and I often think of all the wonderful people in the industry.. She is at the top of the list. I hope you are all well. Deanie

We did not know Patrice. But today we visited the memorial for the first time, and took picturespictures before going inside. We later visited the store, where we saw a woman poignantly touch someone's name- Patrice's. When we uploaded our photos, we realized we had taken a picture of her name, so we looked up her obituary. I feel like we should have known her. Blessings from an unmet friend.

To Amy and the rest of Patrice's sisters and husband Rolondo, I think of her often. I got up this morning and she came to my mind. God bless you all. She is missed. Deanie
