David CHANCE Obituary

CHANCE, David P.

81, of Centerville passed away on Wednesday, June 23, after a short, but courageous battle. David was born on November 17, 1939, to Avaril and James Chance of West Carrollton. A 1957 graduate of West Carrollton High School, Dave subsequently joined the Army, where he was stationed in

Germany, functioning as a

surveyor.

In 1966, David married Diane L. Schmidt of Miamisburg, celebrating 55 years of marriage in April. Together they raised three fabulous daughters, Dina (Steve) Hall of San Antonio, TX, Debra (Erik) Purman and Darci (Paul) Scapatici, both of Springboro. He also deeply loved his grandchildren, Kelsie and Jake Hall, and Ana and Lily Purman. He is survived by his loving sister, MaryLou Garrison and was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Paul, his parents, James Chance (brother), Shirley Overholtz (sister) and O.L. Garrison (brother-in-law).

Dave honorably provided for his family for 31 years as a member of the Dayton Fire Department, twenty of those years as Lieutenant and was a representative of the Dayton Fire

Department's First Responders Hazmat team. He served as a board member at the Dayton Firefighters Federal Credit

Union for 37 years serving as President for many of those years. He simultaneously worked as Controller for his brother-in-law (O.L. Garrison) and sister, Mary Lou's, roofing company Marco Roofing, for 30 years. He dedicated his time to making sure his family had everything they ever needed - and always put them first.

Dave graduated from Sinclair Community College with an Associate Degree in Fire Science Engineering and continued as an Instructor, post-graduation. As an Instructor, Dave created much of the coursework that is still taught today. Always a student, Dave pursued advanced coursework in Urban Studies at Wright State University.

Dave loved retirement, most notably his deep love for the game of golf and spent his retired years working at Pipestone Golf Club in Miamisburg. Dave and Diane also spent the past 12 years being snowbirds in Fort Myers, FL. Here they met many new, great friends along the way. Dave was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes football fan, season ticket holder and relished in the successes of two of his daughters who attended and graduated from the University.

Dave and Diane are also dedicated members of Epiphany Lutheran Church in Centerville.

Dave was loved by so many and will be sorely missed. His quick-witted humor will live on in all of those left behind.

Services will be held at Gebhart, Schmidt, Parramore Funeral Home in Miamisburg at 508 E. Linden Ave., Miamisburg. Friends and family can visit Monday from 4-8 pm, and funeral services will be held Tuesday beginning at 11am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Angels at Hospice of Dayton.

I send my deepest sympathy to you, Diane; and to your three daughters and extended family. We go way back knowing each other through the years. And I just know that your lovely smile and positive outlook on life will return, and Dave will look down nodding with approval.

Your friend always,

Bill

Dave is gone. This message was in my in box on June 23. I knew it would eventually be there but did not want it to be so soon. Dave was a friend for over 50 years. Dave and Diane were original members of seven couples we called "The Group".
Over the years we saw our families grow along with our close friendships. The secret for this long time friendship is we always felt love for one another, but we never wore out our welcome with each other. Our once a month poker club was all in good fun and friendship. Each year we would have a "Group Outing" and each Christmas we would share the holiday with each other. Memories are all we can share now, but they are fond happy memories, these can not be taken from us who are left. So today "The Group" says good bye to you Dave. May you find peace and comfort in Gods house.
God Bless You "The Group"

I am so thankful for the opportunity to have gotten to know Dave. The many chats we had were always enjoyable. The live for his family shined through. He was proud of all of you! He didn't realize how much you guys enjoyed reading his tidbit or fact of the day until one day he said he didn't send one! That story just sticks out and I love that he did that! What great memories he had of his family. Diane I was glad to have finally met you! Hugs to all of Dave's family and thanks for sharing him with me! Debi
