Just saw this, I apologize for being so tardy. I lived in Oakwood from 1983 to 2013. During 2002 some of us in the community questioned the Integrated Math Program being implemented at Oakwood High School. Mary Jo Scalzo was curriculum director at the time and was very open-minded, cooperative, and sensitive to the issues advanced about the math program. Later as Superintendent she advanced her own programs to help assess graduated Oakwood students' math performance in college and other assessment vehicles. I could not have had a better, more honest, and more caring person than Mary Jo to work these issues through. She is truly missed.

Words can never express how saddened I am at the passing of one of my very favorite people. As her coworker and friend of many years, I was always so appreciative of Mary Jo's many gifts. She was a superb communicator and made each person feel they were heard and understood. Her intelligence and compassion made this world much better. I will always miss her so very dearly. I pray for comfort for Rick, family members and all who knew and loved her. God bless Mary Jo.

I was just telling my kids the other day about my elementary school principal Mrs. Scalzo! I'm so sad to hear this news. She's been in my thoughts many times throughout the years. As a fellow UD grad, I was always happy to see her at the games. She was a true fixture in Oakwood education.

far too soon. The McLaughlins feel grateful to have known her...
