I am sad to see him go and appreciated all of the hard work he put into getting us all through school. He was an eternal optimist and very good at his job. He cared about the individual players.

I remember George Slayton as a kind, gentle soul. He made me feel welcomed at GT as a freshman football player in 1986. He was solution driven and student-centered, always willing to help. He made a difference.

Never will forget there were 4 of us freshman who needed remedial math so first quarter freshman year Coach Slayton provided private tutoring from 10am--11am and HE taught the class. Then, throughout my five years at Tech Coach was always there to help and guide me. Such a kind and caring man. with much love and appreciation for Coach Slayton, Scott

I first met Geoorge at the Atlanta downtown YMCA. He was a weight lifter, and i was a gymnast. Later, we crossed paths when i was a student at Ga Tech. He was always a friendly, helpful gentleman.

As so many ballplayers have siad, he HELPED us navigate our way through Georgia Tech. His door was always open, a great listener and was focused at getting you back on track. I am a better man, a better student, and a better business person because of Coach Slayton. I will forever be in his debt. He will be missed. GT 70-74 (football)

Coach always had his door open to listen to dozens of young people every day. He was not only an advocate for us but someone who cared about our direction. Deepest sympathies and condolences to family and friends.

Coach Slayton always, in his very distinctive style, would not only look out for our academic needs but also provided encouragement in our personal endeavors as well.....whether it be athletic, personal, or academic. He was a calming asset to GTAA during three head coaching changes in our time period.

So sorry to hear of Coach Clayton passing. He was a positive influence to many and especially to me at GA Tech. He personally helped through some tough times and enabled me to see things in a positive light. May he have fair winds and following seas to the other side. S/F. DD

George Slayton did the work that today takes a staff of 20. He helped us. He didn´t give it to us he helped us learn.
He visited me on my home when I was getting recruited to explain that the work was difficult but the Tech degree was worth its weight in gold. It rose to the top of the resume pile on the desk of a potential
Employer.
In the sidelines of games he had his transistor radio either held to his ear or with one of those old single ear plugs.
Our favorite exclamation was
" Georgia is losing at halftime!"
Rest in peace Coach Slayton and I look forward to some tutoring in heaven!

Dear Jack,
Coach Slayton was such a positive influence on my life at GT. After the coaching change of 1974, athletic life at the institute was very different, Coach Slayton was always the same lending a listening, sympathetic ear and always, always smiling and encouraging. My condolences on your loss.
