I met Herbie 50 years ago. He was my saxophone teacher and the first person to really start to unravel the mysteries of jazz for me. The torch he lit in me long ago still burns brightly today. My heart goes out to Paula and to all of us who knew him and held him in such high esteem. I'll miss his sense of humor, to be sure but decades of friendship are what I will miss the most.
