David Abbott Obituary
87, devoted husband, father, grandfather & great grandfather of Tampa, FL originally from Kettering, passed on July 25, 2024. He was born on April 23, 1937, in Dayton to the late Alice & Merle Abbott. David graduated from Roosevelt HS in 1955 & and went on to General Motors Institute where he graduated in 1959. He married his late wife, Nancy Durst, in 1959 & they had 2 daughters. He was a lifelong member of St. Johns UCC. For many years, he played golf as a member of NCR CC. David was employed with NCR for over 20 years. He later started his own business, The Oak Sampler, a furniture store in downtown Dayton and Miamisburg. David eventually moved to Tampa to be closer to his oldest daughter & her family. David is survived by his two daughters & son-in-laws Cindy & Sean Strady of FL, Sandy & John Kotch of NC; a sister-in-law Dottie Norton of Miamisburg; five grandchildren Lauren (Nate) Zimmer, Monica (Matt) Towarnicky, Connor, Julia & Damien; & two great grandchildren. The interment will be held Aug 26th at 10:00 am at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive family & friends Aug 25th from 2:00-4:00 at the Westbrock Funeral Home, 1712 Wayne Ave. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Johns Church, envelopes will be available at the funeral home. My prayers and sympathies to the Abbott family. As a child I remember David serving on the church council, especially when I saw him on TV news representing the church after the church fire. I always remembered his mellifluous voice, whether he was speaking or singing in the choir. Though I did not know him well, I always appreciated and was influenced by his example of service. May God be near to the family at this time.
