Gary Smith Obituary

SMITH, GARY

Gary Smith age 90, of Trenton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, surrounded by family. He was born on Friday, September 21, 1934 in Thomas Hollow, just outside of Lucasville, Ohio, to Walter and Nettie Smith. He was the youngest of four children, joining his siblings Louise, Alda, and Betty. Gary graduated from Wayne Township High School in 1953, and shortly after, he embarked on a lifelong journey of faith, service, and love for his family. On September 19, 1959, he married Joyce Ann Stewart. Together, they were married for 57 years with 55 of those years spent in Trenton, Ohio. Gary was a hardworking man who spent many years of his career at Graphic Enterprises, from which he retired after years of dedication and service. His work ethic and commitment to his job were matched only by his devotion to his family and faith. Gary was a born-again Christian and a member of Miltonville Baptist Church for 35 years. He dedicated his life to serving Christ, and his passion for teaching the truths of the King James Bible and the message of salvation touched the lives of many. His unwavering faith was a cornerstone of his life, and his commitment to the Lord and his church was a testimony to his deep spiritual conviction. Gary was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce, his daughter, Marcia, his parents, and his siblings. He was also preceded in death by nephews Larry Wilkerson and Steve Smith. He leaves behind his children, Sharon (Eric) Brazelton, David (Adriana) Smith, and Judy (Brian) Adams, as well as his cherished grandchildren: Kari (Ryan) Petrie, Nathan Eicher, Justin (Natalie) Eicher, Kelly (Taylor) Keith, Kirk Lane, Mallorie Adams, and Wyatt Smith. His great-grandchildren, Landon, Hadley, Emma, and Anderson, will also carry his memory forward. Known lovingly as "Poppy" by his family, Gary's legacy is one of love, faith, and kindness. He was a man who always put others first, sharing his wisdom, his warmth, and his devotion to his loved ones. He will be dearly missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. The family extends their sincere gratitude to Hospice of Middletown for the compassionate care provided during Gary's final days. Special thanks are given to his nurses, Ryan, Catrina, Amber, and Angie, for their unwavering support and care. Funeral services will be held at Miltonville Baptist Church, 4475 Elk Creek Road, Middletown, Ohio 45042, with Brother James Smith, his nephew, officiating. The family invites all who knew and loved Gary to attend and celebrate his life. Visitation will from 11:00 a.m. to noon, on Friday, January 3, 2025 at the church, followed by services at 12:00 noon. Interment will be at Miltonville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of Middletown in Gary's honor. Arrangements by Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.herr-riggs.com
