Spurgeon, James E.

JAMES E. SPURGEON, 64, of Springfield, passed away in his home on Thursday evening, January 2, 2025. He was born in Springfield on October 31, 1960, the son of the late Charles and Hettie (Dunlap) Spurgeon. He was a 1978 graduate of Springfield South High School and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. In 2010, Jim retired from the Springfield Fire Division following nearly 30 years of dedicated service. Jim was an avid Cincinnati Bengals fan, having season tickets in the front row of the end zone for 40 years. He also enjoyed skiing, taking a ski trip every year and trips to Kings Island with his daughter, Karson. Survivors include his wife, Dedra M. (Wilson) Spurgeon; children, Karson Spurgeon and Peter Collier; sister, Cheryl Hart; brothers, Chuck Spurgeon and David (Cindy) Spurgeon; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved four-legged companion, Herky. A service in celebration of Jim's life will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, January 17, 2025 in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. A firefighter's turnout will be held at 5:30 p.m. prior to the service.
