Janet Kitchen Obituary

Kitchen (Coleman), Janet Louise

January 27, 1943 – January 13, 2025

Born in Dayton, Ohio to Mary and Richard Coleman. Janet lived a life full of adventure, creativity, Faith, and deep connections to family and friends. She attended Belmont High School and it was here that her passion for wilderness exploration, the study of Christian Science, and everlasting relationships began. She joined Girl Scouts and became a Reader and member of the Christian Science Mother Church, embodying the Spirit of dedication and Love. Janet's professional journey included a meaningful career as a swim instructor, coach, and lifeguard for the YMCA. Affectionately became a Girl Scout leader where she earned her 50-year pin and the highest honor Thanks badge. Her colleagues became more than coworkers; they were a cherished extended family. A talented backpacker, horseback rider, swimmer, and lover of Faith, Janet found joy in traveling, sewing, and time with family and friends during her retirement years. She also loved gardening, creating beautiful outdoor spaces that brought her peace and satisfaction. One of Janet's greatest loves was her husband of 63 years, Tom. Their connection was symbolized by their shared love of dancing, where they would captivate onlookers with their graceful movements until life's final moments whether it was a classic slow dance or a lively, 50s tune they shared a connection that went beyond mere steps. Proceeded in death by her parents, Mary and Richard Coleman, sister Susan Clouse (Mike), brother Richard Coleman, and brother-in-law, Alan Bogard. Janet is survived by her husband, Thomas G Kitchen; her daughter Debbie Jenkins (Clayton), her daughter Sherry Deardoff (Doug), her sister Linda Bogard; grandchildren, Sam Deardoff (fiancé-Jessica), Joe Deardoff (fiancé-Magdalena), and Lane Etheridge; best friends, Sherry Hughes (George), Susan Hufford (Gary); and numerous cherished, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors. Those who knew Janet will remember her as a faithful, strong, loving, laughing, generous, and kind soul who treasured family, friendships, and nature. Her love for horses, dogs, all animals, and the outdoors and her warm and funny storytelling about childhood memories of her mother, father, and siblings painted a picture of a woman who appreciated life's simple, yet profound moments. Janet's legacy of Faith, Love, Laughter, Family, and Compassion will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
