He was born in Dayton on January 20, 1944, to the late Donald ("Doc") and Irma (Cast) Brown. He was a graduate of Vandalia-Butler High School and Wright State University. He was a teacher and coach at Tipp City and Springfield Shawnee High Schools, where he impacted the lives of many students. He was a beloved husband, dad, grandpa, brother, friend, teller of "brave little boy" stories, proud Democrat and believer in social equality, golfer, fan of the UD Flyers and the Buckeyes, and long-time member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and its Stephen Ministry. Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his grandpa, Gerald Cast; and sisters Barbara Brown, Geraldine Brown, and Patricia (Brown) Smith. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Linda (Darnell) Brown; children Jeff Brown (Missy) and Katherine Brown Seppi (Antony); grandchildren Rae, Nathan, Alex, and Izaak Brown, and Sofia, Ethan, and Mira Seppi; sister Judy Breuer; nieces and nephews; and many lifelong friends. My sympathies to Linda and family. As a new kid and freshman in high school, Mike went out of his way to make me feel welcome. I have always appreciated that and we have been friends ever since although separated by distance and career paths. Rest in peace to very good man.

Truly enjoyed my AP History class at Shawnee (c/o '88) with Mr. Brown. He encouraged us to research thoroughly, think critically, and debate respectfully. My sincerest condolences go out to his family.

I was a student of Mike's at Springfield Shawnee in the class of 1976. We had many fine teachers there, both as professionals and as people. For me, Mike stood out, even above the many other fine folk I knew there. We tended both to agree and disagree a lot--I was young and firm in my own ways then--but his positive influence on me lasted and lasted, and in many ways he initiated me, via both his own mind and by his example, to become a better person and a better thinker. I never found him to be an "evangelizer" as a teacher, but to be patient with me and to present his own well thought out views in a kind and gently patient way. I've remembered him fondly and often over these last 49 years since graduating, saw him a couple of times since then, and thus had the chance to express how he'd opened my mind to more critical thinking and important changes. Mike Brown, one of the best.

Mr. Brown was my favorite teacher. I greatly enjoyed conversations with him. Especially politics even though we were at opposite ends of the political spectrum. He was a great guy.

Loved Mr Brown! Fun class with actual learning! Remember a prank a few of us played on him. Put a magazine centerfold on the roll up/down world map. Was fun when he rolled the map down and there was a Playmate for him. I don't remember getting in trouble tho! Great Shawnee teacher!! (1975)
