BESTER, Jakobus H. "Koos" Jakobus H. "Koos" Bester, 42, of Ferry Rd., Chester, beloved husband of Lynette (Parkin) Bester, died Thursday, (June 24, 2004) at Hartford Hospital due to a cycling accident. Born in South Africa on October 22, 1961, he was the son of Piet and Maggie Bester of South Africa. Koos came to the United States from South Africa in 1997. He was a member of the United Church of Chester and enjoyed cycling, biking and kayaking. Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by two daughters, Dominique and Petru Bester, both of Chester; a brother, Flip Bester of Canada; two sisters, Jeanette and Miem, both of South Africa and his maternal grandmother, Jeanette Loots. A celebration service of Koos's life will be held at 4 p.m., Wednesday, June 30, at the United Church of Chester, 29 West Main St., Chester. There will be a gathering at the Bester residence following a bike ride, departing from the church, cycling through Chester Center and ending at the Bester's home. Participants who choose to ride are requested to wear a helmet and the family requests casual, colorful attire. For further information you may contact the United Church of Chester. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a trust fund for Dominique and Petru Bester, c/o New Alliance Bank, 9 Water St., Chester, 06412. Swan Funeral Home, 211 Main St., Deep River was entrusted with arrangements.
