Melvin Fredrick Scott

Melvin Fredrick Scott was born December 2, 1921, in Dakota, WV to Joseph and Bessie Scott. He was the 3rd of 4 children and is survived by his dearly loved sister, Violet Rutledge of Kenna, WV. He passed away in Safford, AZ February 8, 2007 at the age of 85. Melvin served from October 1942 to August 1945 in the 3rd U.S. Army Engineers Corp. under General George C. Patton. He was married in San Berardino, CA February 20, 1943 to his sweetheart, Helen L. Casdorph who passed away August 7, 2002. Their first child, Melvin Wayne (MaryAnne), was born while Mel was serving on the front lines in France in December 1943. Four more children followed: Patricia (Randy) White, Constance (Hans) Ringger, Joseph (Cindy) and Randy (Tina) Scott. Melvin moved his family from Charleston, WV to Utah in 1950, where he tried his hand at several construction jobs finally becoming a commercial electrician while residing in Mesa, AZ. He was a member of the I.B.E. W. until he retired in 1977. He and Helen then served several missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including serving in the Papago Ward (Salt River Arizona Indian Reservation), The Tongan Islands, Pittsburg, PA, and Bakersfield, CA. They also served in the Mesa Arizona Temple. Melvin is survived by his 5 children; 38 grandchildren; and 66 great-grandchildren. Melvin was known for his loyalty and dependability. He was a strong, handsome, quiet man, loved and respected by his family and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 14 at Bunker's Garden Chapel, 33 N.
