Lavene Brewer

Lavene Brewer, 79, passed away July 25, 2007 in Nacogdoches, Texas. Born September 2, 1927 in Nacogdoches County, she was the daughter of the late Warren and Nancy "Nannie" Scroggins. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2007, at Holly Springs Baptist Church. Pastor Homer L. Murray of Holly Springs Baptist Church will be officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Springs Cemetery. Mrs. Brewer retired from Moore Business Forms after 17 years. She then worked for the Garrison Post Office for 10 years and wrote articles for the Garrison newspaper. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW and the Auxiliary at Nacogdoches Medical Center and Holly Springs Baptist Church. She was a member of the Moore Retirement Club, the secretary-treasurer of Holly Springs Cemetery and the Cedar Bluff Community Center. Mrs. Brewer is survived by her granddaughters, Shandra Buster and husband, Dale, of Garrison and Shannon Wortham of Woden; sisters, Viola Garrett Reed of Garrison, Iva Lee Thompson of Garrison, Vera Wilson of Nacogdoches and Nannie Mae Johnson of Garrison; brothers, John Alton Scroggins and Bobby Langston Scroggins, both of Garrison; great-granddaughters, Stacy Justus and husband, Cody, of Lufkin, Tracy Hough and husband, Jon Eric ,of Kilgore and Amanda Jackson and husband, Joey, of Woden; great-grandson, Tate Buster of Garrison; great-great-grandsons, Landon Justus of Lufkin and Zachary Jackson of Woden. Along with her parents, Mrs. Brewer is preceded in death by her husband, James H. Brewer, on June 2, 2004; daughter, Gloria Jean Wallace; and great-granddaughter, Kristin Holliman. Pallbearers will be Cody Justus, Joey Jackson, Danny L. Garrett, James A, Garrett, Brandon Scroggins and William Shockley. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
