Henrietta Meurer Obituary

Henrietta Kracmer Meurer, 77, of West, passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, in West. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with the Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Henrietta was born Oct. 4, 1930, in West, the daughter of Toby and Flora (Berckenhoff) Kracmer. She attended West schools and graduated from West High School in 1948 before attending 4-C Business College in Waco. On Sept. 17, 1955, she was united in marriage to George Meurer in West. Henrietta was best known as the librarian for the West Public Library since 1985. She was very instrumental in getting the new library built and received many librarian awards. Henrietta enjoyed reading, gardening, attending her grandchildren's activities and spending time with family and friends. She was very involved in community service. She was a breast cancer survivor and a great supporter of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. She also served as Eucharistic minister at the rest home and to shut-ins. Henrietta was a member of the West Fair and Rodeo Association; West Longhorn Club; and K.J.Z.T. Society #11, where she served as financial secretary and treasurer for 26 years and was Fraternalist of the Year in 2006. She also served as a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader and was named Woman of Distinction by the Blue Bonnet Council for her many years of service. Henrietta received the Citizen of the Year Award in 2000 by the West Chamber of Commerce and was also given the Honorary Lone Star Farmer Degree. She was a charter member and active member of West Fraternal Auditorium. She was also a member of the Texan Library Association, Czech Heritage Society, Catholic Daughter of America Court No. 829, the 50-50 Club, the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women Northern Deanery, St. Anne's Altar Society, and a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Jimmy Kracmer. Survivors include her beloved husband of 52 years, George Meurer of West; three sons, Dennis Meurer, M.D., of Huntington, W.Va., Anthony Meurer and wife, Debbie, and Thomas Meurer, D.V.M. and wife, Jaye, all of West; two daughters, Diana Blakley and husband, Joe, of Gatesville, and Mary Scott and special friend, Russell Brackeen, of West; one brother, Frankie Kracmer and wife, Donna, of Midlothian; sister-in-law, Chris Kracmer, of Grand Prairie; two sisters, Agnes Ondrey and husband, Joe, of Houston, and Martha Dach and husband, Fred, of Temple; 12 grandchildren, Micaela Meurer, Jerod, Dalton and Jolee Meurer, Tiffany Clements, Tara Schulze, Kally Blakley, Dylan, Garrett and Colton Meurer, and Lauren and Truett Scott; one great-grandson, Brendon Blackburn; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Public Library Association, West Volunteer Ambulance Association, or the charity of your choice.
