Kevin Manning Obituary

Obituary

Kevin William Manning passed away in the arms of his wife and surrounded by his family and friends at his home on Thursday, January 31, 2008. He was born March 25, 1949 in Danbury, Connecticut to William and Elizabeth Manning.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Terri Lynne; his mother, Elizabeth; his brother, John (Lisa); and Terri's children, Jeanine, Michelle and Jeffrey whom he loved and cherished as if they were his own. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Justin, Derek, Jessica, Emma, Paxton and Hanna; his great grandson, JJ; and his Golden Retriever, Molly along with many friends.

Kevin attended Fordham University and graduated from Manhattan College in New York City prior to coming to Southwest Florida in 1970. He loved the construction business and was involved in the construction of many of the high rise buildings in Lee and Collier County through his association with some of the largest general contractors and developers in the area. He was licensed in the State of Florida as a General Contractor and was most recently the Chief Operating Officer for BBL Florida, LLC. He was a captain of his industry and highly respected by his peers and associates. Kevin was quick with a joke and a laugh. Outside of his love for Terri and his work, he had a passion for boating. His family would want him remembered as he was, full of and bigger than life, not by the battle with cancer that ultimately took him.

Visitation for family and friends will be at Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home at 28300 Tamiami Trail South in Bonita Springs on Monday, February 4, 2008 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 6:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at 10:00 AM at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 28290 Beaumont Road in Bonita Springs. Burial will follow at Naples Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

The family would like to thank Kevin's medical team in Fort Myers and in Houston, TX as well as the magnificent staff at Hope Hospice for their support and care during Kevin's last days. "I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life, To the gull's way and the whale's way, where the wind's like a whetted knife; And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover, And a quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over." Excerpt from Sea Fever by John Mansfield.

Teri, Just thinking of you, and hope life is going well for you. There's always those "days" that you will stop and think about the past, what could have been, what should have been, and what is. I'm hoping the memories of the past are good ones, and the thought of the future even better. Best wishes always, Linda

Hey! Friends and Family Kev may not be with us physically but let's keep this website alive (maybe he has wireless up there). I Google and look at this occasionally and see zero new entries. I know some of you do it too but nobody is leaving messages. Mom looks at it too - let's keep this alive??? We can all communicate and the family would appreciate your thoughts and feelings about Kev.

Terri,

I will remember Kev as hard but soft; inquisitive one day and uninterested the next; and I know that he demanded no more of others than he did of himself.

He was a good friend and wise businessman, a loyal companion and a fierce competitior.

He had an organized wallet, but a messy garage.

I remember that he liked to be prepared and did not like to "wing it" - but liked to appear spontaneous.

I was privledged to have been able to know Kevin at home as well as work. I knew him in slopply shorts and a ripped T Shirt and a white shirt with cuff links.

I knew of his devotion and love for you. He loved buying you things that pleased you as much as they pleased him. You were his touchstone, his warm place, his home.

He touched many people in his life and he will be missed now that he is gone by more people than you realize.

Terri, My thoughts and prayers are with you now, as they have been since I heard of Kevin's diagnosis. I, more than most, know what you both have gone through, and what you and your family are going through now, my heart goes out to you. They say that time heals the hole thats left in your heart, but I dont think the pain ever goes away, it just eases little by little. Embrase the memories, and pictures of all the good times, and he will always be with you. Just know I'm thinking of you. Take care of yourself now, your family needs you, and they're there for you too. You're a strong lady, and I know you'll be ok. Just take one day at a time, and GOD will help you down your new path of life. Good thoughts and lots of prayers from me to you always.

Terri, our prayers go out to you and your family. Kevin will be missed immensely - you could always depend on him for a witty comment, a funny story that made you laugh out loud, or sometimes just simply a sypathetic ear to listen to your troubles. "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." Matthew 5:4

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself … any man’s death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
