MARILYN AUGSBURGER Obituary

Marilyn M. Augsburger, 69, of DeKalb, Ill., died Saturday, March 8, 2008, at home.
Born May 13, 1938, in Indianapolis, Ind., Marilyn Marie Spreen was the daughter of Edward and Florence (Hughes) Spreen. Marilyn met and married Jerry Augsburger while they were both undergraduates at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in August 2007.
She was a retired educator of 38 years. She enjoyed gardening, gourmet cooking and traveling, particularly to England. Marilyn was a lifelong supporter of the arts and was a longtime member of The Art Institute of Chicago and the Field Museum. She was an avid reader and bridge player and enjoyed public television. Marilyn had a deep love for her family and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
In her life, Marilyn was active in AAUW, the University Women's Club at Northern Illinois University, the DeKalb County 4-C board, the Methodist church and Girl Scouts.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Jerry, of DeKalb; a daughter, Connie (Brian Buzard) Augsburger of Mount Morris; a son, Michael (Eun Young) Augsburger of DeKalb; and four grandchildren, Daniel (fiancée, Lote Vong) and Elizabeth Augsburger, both of DeKalb, and Christine and Stephen Buzard, both of Mount Morris. She is also survived by two brothers, Nicholas Spreen of Alexandria, Ind., and Thomas (Sharon) Spreen of Gainesville, Fla.; three nephews, John and Luke Spreen of Gainesville and Jeffrey (Barbara) Spreen of Black Earth, Wis.; a niece, Annetta (Steven) Smith of Zionsville, Ind.; three brothers-in-law, Ellis (Myrna) Augsburger of Walnut Creek, Ohio, Robert (Carol) Augsburger of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Jesse Habegger of Berne, Ind.; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
There will be no visitation, and the funeral will be held for immediate family only. The family is planning a celebration of Marilyn's life to take place in the spring at a time and place to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established by the family to benefit, among other causes, the Cancer Care Center at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb.

Dear Jerry, Connie, Mike and familes,
I am sorry to hear of your loss, words can add comfort, but when I read of Marilyn's passing, I hear that laugh of hers running through my brain when the "gals" were playing bridge and the days of "Warren Place" and what a truly remarkable and Christian woman she was -- right now, I can only imagine that there is one HECK of a bridge game going on, and just know that she is ALWAYS with you, as my mom is with me in the love and laugther and in other small ways -- My love to all of you.
